Music Review: Saves the Day "In Reverie"

After 4 albums under their belt, this being their 5th, saves the day has come a long way. From new found fans to long time followers, this album will be quite a surprise to both. It's title suggests the overall feel to the album, "In Reverie". Reverie defined in the dictionary as "A state of abstracted daydreaming". Quite appropriate. This album is much like a relaxing vacation, laying in the sun, getting caught up in daydreams. The album as a whole is much like a river, flowing from one song to the next without any real change in pace or sound. The album should be only listened to as a whole to get the best "bang for your buck". It's opening track "Anywhere With You" has worked it's way onto MTV and the radio waves, with a suprisingly catchy chorus. My first reaction to the release of this song as their first single was disapointment. Then i kept listening to it and i couldn't stop. It has a certain feel that allows you to listen to it on repeat without getting sick of it because it doesn't really have the pop elements of most the current hits on the radio. The last song is quite a good wrap-up. Starting off with clean guitar and Chris's high vocals, it feels as though you're finally falling asleep. Chris's voice throughout the whole album has gotten surprisingly even higher then his past albums. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Over all, the lyrics were pretty dissapointing. I wouldn't go to the point of saying very, but it definately was a let down compared to their last 4 releases. Essentially, this album is worthy of a spot in your cd collection, and worth your time. It's no rock out cd like they've proven to give in the past, but it's one to pop in the cd player when you don't feel like doing anything. Saves the Day has artistically easily outdone themselves.
