| I was born in Yreka, CA on February 10, 1963. As of this writing, on January 11, 2000, I am just under one month from turning 37 years of age. As I grew up at home, those closest to me began to recognize that I had some sort of a musical gift in me. However, it never really developed into very much until high school. I took great interest in the guitar, and I began to learn how to play in 1979. I spent hours upon hours hidden away in my bedroom practicing. I even began writing my own songs. Having heard a lot of John Denver music through the years, I began to write about mountains, trees, nature and Colorado. I took part in several talent shows through out my high school days. In 1984, a major disaster struck our family when my parents divorced. I was 21 at the time and had no idea what to do next. I had been out of high school since 1981 and I use to hang around our local Christian book store. It was calm and quiet there and since that is the kind of person I am, I took to it very quickly. It was there that I was invited to a Four Square Church. Now my idea of church was quite a picture, dull organ music, old white haired men and women, a complete bore. However, the woman who invited me said that I may find their church a little more "with it" in the form of more up beat music and alive. "Was there such a church?" I thought to myself. I took her up on her offer and it didn't take long before I was hooked. This church was alive and vibrant with life. There were people my age and even younger there. Maybe there was something to this church stuff after all. It also didn't take very long for the music director to notice that I sang. I liked the music they did, and he offered a spot on the platform, with a microphone. Now I had done this in school, so I knew how to perform, and at that point that's all I was doing. Performing. They put me on the platform before I was even born again. After a couple of weeks, the music director took me aside and told me that if I was going to sing up front, they needed to know where I stood with the Lord. "It's about time you asked," I thought. I was led to the Lord in a small room off the sanctuary with no bright lights or thunder of any kind. Just a quiet knowing that I was now a child of
God, washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ. In
September of 1986, I met the lady who would later become my wife, Annie. We were married on July 7, 1987. In October of 1988, Robin Lynn was born. By this time I was fully involved in the musical side of things at the church. In 1991, a recording was discussed. Our youth pastor had all he needed to produce a music cassette. In the spring of that year, we began recording my first set of songs. Since then, I have produced over 25 different cassettes with a wide variety of music. They are all Christ centered and biblically accurate, and I pray they are a great blessing to all who take the time to listen. God Bless, John Day |
