JERRY ROBERTSON RETAINS THE TOP SPOT IN THE GREAT WEST REGION OF THE NASCAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 10, 2001) - While Jerry Robertson maintained the number one ranking this week, other drivers in the top tier scrambled positions in the Great West Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series.
Robertson of Arvada, Colo., leads the region with a Competition Performance Index of .8211. The index is used to rank the track leaders in each of the 10 regions across the country.
Robertson has six wins and eight top-five finishes in 10 races this season in Late Model competition on the .375-mile paved oval at Colorado National Speedway north of Denver.
A win this past week by Jason Jefferson at Yakima (Wash.) Speedway propelled him to second in this week's regional standings. Jefferson of Naches, Wash., has three wins and seven top-five finishes in eight races this season in the Late Model division on the .500-mile paved oval.
Also picking up a victory this past week was Tom Pinkowsky, who moved to third in the ranking. Pinkowsky of Vancouver, Wash., won his second race - to go with seven top-five finishes in eight races this season at Portland (Ore.) Speedway.
John Pierce of Monroe, Wash., moved up to fourth in the standings this week. He has two wins and seven top-five finishes in 11 races on his hometown track of Evergreen Speedway. Fifth in the region is Lynn Hardy of West Jordan, Utah. Hardy has two wins and eight top-five finishes in 11 races at Rocky Mountain Raceways near Salt Lake City.
Completing the top tier of the standings for the Great West Region this week are Brent Harris of East Wenatchee, Wash., Wenatchee Valley Super Oval in East Wenatchee, Wash.; Mark Beebe of Forks, Wash., South Sound Speedway in Tenino, Wash.; Bruce Quale of Twin Falls, Idaho, Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls; and Mike Zamora of Kennewick, Wash., Tri-City Raceway in West Richland, Wash.
The regional champions will be decided following the conclusion of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series season on September 16. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national championship will then be determined by a ranking of the regional champions using the Competition Performance Index. The top 50 drivers as rated by their CPI in the Great West Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series for the week of July 9 follows.
