Even though the temperature setting of your thermostat may be set for your personal comfort, there are certain settings that will aide in your energy savings.
Set your thermostat for 68 degrees or lower for heat and 78 degrees or higher for cooling. These are the best temperatures for energy savings. By lowering the cooling temperature one degree or raising the heating temperature by one degree, your heating and or cooling costs will increase by 3 to 5 %.
Hot water tank temperatures can be set according to your personal preference. However, if your home contains a dishwasher, set the temperature at 140 degrees (normal). If you do not have a dishwasher, 120 degrees is recommended (low).
Always remember, before leaving for extended periods of time, turn down your temperature control on your furnace and hot water tank.
