The Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has been closed down indefinitely following a strike embarked upon by the non-academic staff union of the institution.
To make the impact of the strike felt on the campus, Daily Trust gathered that the aggrieved members of the non-academic staff had disrupted light and water supply.
It was further gathered that realising the effect which these might have on the campus, the school authorities decided to shut down the school to avoid chaos.
Investigations also revealed that the union did not only disrupt water and light supplies. It went ahead to chase away security men provided by the school. Some of the students who spoke with Daily Trust claimed that the Rector should be blamed for not handling the situation promptly.
The non-academic staff union had earlier given the YABATECH authorities an ultimatum to meet their demands which include increase in their pay package and other better conditions of service.
On their part, the students union government is also aggrieved that they were not provided with shuttle buses to facilitate their movement.
Daily Trust visited the campus, on Tuesday, it was already deserted, while police teams on surveillance were seen monitoring the situation.
It was also gathered that before the school was shut down a forthnight ago, students were given less than two hours to vacate the campus.
