Justice Mustapha Akanbi's anti-corruption commission has received of petition over allegation of corruption, fraud and cheating against the Rector and Bursar of Yaba College of Technology
(YCT) Lagos.
The petitioner, Olusola Dada, in a memorandum forwarded to the commission alleged that the contract for the management of YCT Royal Guest House was fraudulently and illegally awarded to "Academy Hotels" Ltd, a company fronting for the duo Joseph Babtunde Akeju (Bursar) and ( the Rector) Chief Mrs. Odugbesen
F.A.
When the goings were good, the petitioner - stated that he was invited by the Bursar, January 1999 to form a company that can manage Yaba Tech Royal Guest house built by
YCT. The petitioner stated that having formed the company, it was agreed that the company would be owned by (himself) the petitioner, the Bursar and the Rector.
Preparatory to the award of the contract, it was alleged the Rector and Bursar made available to the petitioner copies of other competitors (companies) proposals, in order to win in the contract bid.
After a competitive interview, Academy Hotels Ltd was declared winner of the contract even though the company was not legally incorporated.
The petitioner claimed further that not only was he sent on a course but that he was also given various sums of moneys by the bursar to prepare the guest house for the opening of the Junior FIFA World Cup.The Bursar who is also a silent director was also alleged to have used another company ANKORTEE construction as a front, in a case of an alleged fraud to the tune of N894,288.
Daily Trust gathered that the result of an investigating panel headed by Dr. Dipo Kolawole, under former Education Minister, Prof. Adeniran, to probe the activities of the colleges did not see the light of the day, even as the petitioner alleges a threat to his life by the Bursar.
Asked why the petitioner is now aggrieved, he disclosed that in other to remove him as managing director Yaba Tech Royal House, the Bursar allegedly blackmailed him through an orchestrated audit that he (the petitioner) misappropriated N1.8 million.
Aggrieved by these developments, the petitioner is praying the anti-corruption commission to determine the credibility of Academy Hotels Ltd. and take appropriate and immediate steps to get YCT to contract the Royal Guest House out to existing neutral company or one of those competing companies - Samuelson Management Ltd and Treasure Island Hotels - who were allegedly cheated during the interview.
