YABATECH EXPELS 52 OVER EXAMS FRAUD

Authorities of Yaba College of Technology Lagos, have expelled 52 students for various offences bordering on examination malpractices and certificate forgery.
Campus Square checks showed that of the 30 expelled for examination malpractices during the 1999/2000 and second semester 1999/2000 session, 22 were ND II Business Administration; 11 HND Business Administration, 1 NDII Accountancy; five NDII Town and Regional Planning and 1 NDI Estate Management. Two students are however, to repeat HND1 Land Surveying and NDI Business Administration classes, while two others are to carry over courses registered for in the current academic session. Meanwhile, lecturers in the institution, under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics have vowed to resist the planned move by the Federal Government to impose a new rector on the college.
The ASUP members who spoke through their newly elected Chairman, Dave Ohiorhenuan, said appointment of a new rector to succeed Chief (Mrs) Felicia Odugbesan, whose term expires later this year, should be "democratised"'. In yet another development, the Students' Union Government of the college has reiterated its commitment to fight for the overall welfare of the students.
Speaking with Campus Square, Comrade Akinbolade Abiodun said that the YASU was set to renovate the burnt food village in addition to furnishing the halls of residence with loud speakers for better communication. Already, he disclosed, the union government has renovated Dele Giwa YASU Hall in addition to putting in place a website for the students.
