YABATECH GRADUATES 3320 STUDENTS

Yaba College of Technology, Lagos at the weekend graduated 3,320 students even as the Minister of Education, Professor Babalola Borishade called on the graduants to take advantage of the Federal Government various job creation programmes.

Prof. Borishade also noted that the Federal Government was now pursuing programmes aimed at moving the country's education in the right direction. He spoke at the 23rd convocation ceremony of Yaba College of Technology in Lagos in an address read on his behalf by Mrs. M. O. Ohirunfuni, Director of Technology and Science Education, Federal Minister of Education.

He said, "it is common knowledge that the present civilian administration inherited an educational sector which was plagued with a myriad of problems. However, the Federal Government has made the revamping, reorienting, restructuring and repositioning of the educational system in the country one of its main priorities.

"To this end, government has articulated and continues to fashion out and implement policies, programmes and strategies to move education forward on the right direction," he added."Through the Technical and Vocational Education seminar held last year, government has taken the first step toward strengthening the technological and scientific base of the nation, through revamping the technical and vocational sub-sector with a view to having a reformed technical and vocational system, that will produce job creators rather than job seekers and that will lift Nigeria up technologically in the face of globalization and stand us on good stead against this 21st century world economic order of technological imperialism," he further said.
