SIDS is the shortened term for "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome." This is the death of an apparently healthy baby before one year because of unknown causes. It is likely to happen during the child's sleep. SIDS is also known as "crib-death," -Children who die of SIDS over the age of 1 are classified as having SUDS (Sudden Unexplainable Death Syndrome).
