Secondary State Highway 5G

SSH 5G was added to the state highway system in 1937. This route began at Jct PSH 5 (then US 410, now SR 167) in Puyallup and headed south to the vicinity of present day South Hill Mall, then west, ending at Jct PSH 1 (US 99). The west end of SSH 5G was shifted to the present day SR 512 freeway when I-5 opened from Ponders Corner to Exit 127 in 1959. When the current state highway numbering system was first posted in January 1964, the north-south leg of SSH 5G became signed as SR 161 and the east-west leg, SR 512.
