SSH 4B was added to the state highway system in 1937. This route began at Jct PSH 2 (then US 10, later Alt US 10, now US 2) in Wilbur and headed south via Odessa, ending at Jct PSH 11 (since 1938, US 395) near Lind. SSH 4A is now part of SR 21.
