When the current state highway numbering system was first posted in January 1964, SR 902 began in Medical Lake near Eastern State Hospital and headed east to I-90 Exit 272 and ended. Effective April 1, 1992, SR 902 was extended south from Medical Lake to I-90 Exit 264. Today, SR 902 is 12.36 miles long.
Before 1964, SR 902 had been SSH 11D.
