Orianna first met Ardeyn when she was ten and Ardeyn was 15. Orianna had wandered away from her Caravan and into the arms of a band of overseers, who were secret slave trains of Nicardian. Ardeyn, who had been trailing the slave train to try and find out more information about the Lord that owned it, saw them attempting to capture Orianna and came to her rescue. Attacking them by surprise, she slipped the young Gypsy girl out of their grasp and headed out into the night, running away as fast as they could towards where the girl's Caravan was. Intercepted by a guard at the outskirts of the Caravan, they were taken into the Gypsy camp and wer safe from the train.
This was how Orianna and Ardeyn grew to be great friends. For several months they saw each other off and on as Ardeyn inspected the slave trains that came near the camp. The older girl became a familiar sight among the younger children of the camp, though she spent all of her time with Orianna. However, after she had followed a slave train for a few days, when she returned she found that the Caravan had moved on. She missed Orianna terribly.
That Caravan was the one that headed south into Drow territory, and was abushed at night by those legendary creatures of the night. Orianna was taken captive, rather than killed, and was kept as a concubine to the sadistic Clan Lord Savil, where she spent the next four years in servitude.
