Butch, (Kosaburo in the Japanese version) is the most mysterious Rocket member to date. Pretty much nothing is known about him or his past. He is also extremely quiet, usually allowing Cassidy to speak for the both of them. I did a count of his lines on the transcript of the "Breeding Centre Secret" (Their debut episode), and he was given a whopping 21 lines next to Cassidy's 67!(This includes the motto, but not the lines when Butch and Cass speak in unison) I wonder why he is so quiet...
The most controversial topic surrounding Butch is his American voice dub. I've heard people describe his voice in ways that range form being kinda funny to down right nasty. True, we don't know why his voice is the way it is, but I hardly believe that its because he's a druggie, a smoker or anything like that. I guess its just one of those things we'll never know the reason for. But actually, I have gotten used to it and it rather fits him!:)
Although not yet shown in the U.S., in a later Pokemon episode we discover that Butch has a drowzee, and quite a powerful one at that!(SPOILER!) Powerful enough to turn Ash's Pikachu against Ash! He was using his drowzee to hynotize all the pokemon in the surrounding area to give to the Boss, and Ash just happened to be in the way. Unfortunately, their plan fails because of...TOGEPY! Ahh..another reason for me to want to turn that thing into an omlett!:p
As for who his love interest is, that is unknown. But he appears to be interested in his partner Cassidy. (I'm all for it, I think it would be Kawaii!:) But, I am a hopeless romantic!
All in all, I think that Butch is my favorite character on the show, not necessarily for what has been, but what could be...He's also the cutest guy on the show (In my opinion!)
