George M. Potocnik

Enumclaw, Wash. - George Potocnik died March 10, 2011 in Enumclaw.  He was born March 7, 1912 to Frank and Mary (Dolene) Potocnik in Clay Mine, near Black Diamond.  George attended the historic Kummer School.  In 1923 his family moved to Cumberland where his parents owned the Cumberland Store, and his mother was the Post Mistress.  George attended and graduated from Wilson Business College in Seattle.  He was a fireman for the U.S. Army Depot in Auburn and at Boeing.  He enjoyed fishing, hiking and baseball.  He was a member of the Slovenian National Benefit Society Lodge #738 for 83 years and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He was also a charter member of the Rainier Council 9637 of the Knights of Columbus based in Buckley, WA.

He is survived by his wife Frances; son Gene Potocnik and wife Marlene of Everson, WA; son Jim Potocnik and wife Holly of Enumclaw; daughter Georgene Murphy and husband Glen of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; grandchildren Anne Murphy Knudsen (Steve), Greg Murphy (Aleca), Erin Murphy, Emily Doss (Joel), Jamie Potocnik and Ben Potocnik; and great grandchildren Matthew, Colin, Levi, Ashley, Catherine, Michael and Mary.

Visitation is available on Thursday, Mar. 17, 2011 at Weeks' Funeral Home in Enumclaw and a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, Mar. 18, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw, WA. followed by burial at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
