"Seriously?" Nick asked.
"Yeah, I don't want to keep it a secret from them, maybe Lisa, but not them," I shrugged.
"I guess you're right, then I can take you places, and no one would say anything," Nick said, wrapping his arm around me as he drove.
"Nick?" I asked.
"Yeah?" he replied.
"Thank you, thank you for being you, thank you for accepting me, thank you for loving me, thank you for everything," I said, finally.
"No, I should be thanking you for being perfect for me," he said. We drove the rest of the way home in silence. As he rounded into my driveway he said,
"Pick you up at 7, we'll go to that new Italian restaurant."
"Nick, you really don't have to!" I exclaimed.
"I know, but I am," Nick said, driving back to his house. I walked into my house, and decided it was time to go to bed, considering I DID have that case. I gathered the right papers together, and placed them into my little briefcase. I then went upstairs, and got ready for bed. It might have been early, but I wanted to be ready. "See ya Monday, Bob!" I yelled. We had just won our most recent case, and was just leaving the court. I saw Nick leaning against my car. "Hey, what are you doing here, looking so nice?" I asked, patting his shoulder.
"Um.. reservations, at 8?" he reminded.
"Nick! I'm sorry! The case ran over, so I couldn't just leave. What time is it now?" I asked, apologizing.
"7:20. It's okay, I'll just call and say make them later," he said,
"I was just worried. I went over to your house, and you weren't there. Then, they wouldn't let me in to see if you were inside, so I figured your case was still in progress," he said, kissing me.
"Why don't you come over my house, while I get ready to go," I invited.
"Um... sure," he said, hopping into his car.
"Meet ya there," I said, closing the door, and starting the car. 15 minutes later, we were reunited at my house.
"I'll be right back," I said, running upstairs, and taking a quick shower. I wandered back to my room, and chose on a lavendar dress to wear, with my hair down. I put on a little make-up, and decided to wear a bracelet Nick gave me this year on my 20th birthday. It might have been plain, but it was one of my favorites. I picked up my shoes, and quickly buckled them in place. I looked up to see Nick standing in the doorway. "How long have you been watching me?" I asked, curiously.
"Not long, just to see you put on your shoes," he said walking in.
"Oh, okay," I said, "How should I wear my hair?" I asked. He shrugged.
"Okay, I'll it easy, up in this ribbon," I asked, holding up a matching purple ribbon, "or down."
"I guess the ribbon," he said.
"Okay," I said, making a pony tail.
"Will you help me make a bow? Kinda like when you tie your shoelaces," I said, holding out the ribbon.
"Sure, but I'm not very good," he reminded.
"That's okay," I said. I felt his hands take the ribbon, and slowly pull the ribbon into a knot, covering the little black scrunchie I had, holding up my hair. Once the knot was in place, I felt him smooth out the bumps, and turn me around. "Okay, done," he said.
"Thanks," I said, kissing him on the cheek.
"You ready to go?" he asked.
"Yup, let's go," I said, grabbing his hand, and leading him out of my bedroom.
"I love you Jessica Marie Brown," he said, as we went down the stairs.
"Nickolas Gene Carter, you're the only person I could love like this. It's a different feeling than I've ever felt. You're perfect for me," I whispered. He looked down at me, and slowly kissed me.
"That just made my day," he said, when we parted.
"But it's true!" I said.
"I know, which makes it even better," he replied. Knowing I'd made his day, made it worth while. If only he knew that him just being near me, was all he had to do to please me.
