Adoption In China

this page will be about adoption in China- still under construction! I adopted my first daughter in China on June 3, 1995. She was 6 weeks old and absolutely adorable. China is a wonderful and terrible place - wonderful because the people are incredible and because my daughter was born there. Terrible because of the poverty. There is a great need for adoptive parents for many, many baby girls who are abandoned because of the one child policy. It is a relativly straightforward process to adopt in China and the timeframe is shorter than many other countries. The stay in China to do the adoption is usually 2 weeks. I adopted independantly (without the help of an agency), though that is no longer allowed in China(it still is in Haiti!!.) The entire process took just over 9 months (quite appropriate, I think!) but most of that time was spent researching and gathering documents. With agency involvement it can take a bit longer (more red tape...more time to get through it!)
