Cacciola, Holmes and Nelson Perform
in Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall        Three Wakefield High seniors recently participated in this year's All Eastern Festival. In late February they joined other selected high school musicians from New England and performed a weekend of concerts in New York City's famed Carnegie Hall. The festival participants were directed by leading musicians in the New York and Boston areas.
       Tenors Nick Cacciola and Joseph Holmes sang in the festival chorus under direction of Eph Ely. Their program included selections from Faure's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and works by Morten Lauridsen, and Irving Berlin.
       Chris Nelson played trumpet in the festival jazz ensemble under direction of John Faddis The jazz band's program consisted of charts by Duke Ellington and Thad Jones, including Don't Get Sassy, Tip Toe, and In a Mellow Tone.
       Also participating in the festival were the All-Eastern Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra. The Symphonic Band, under direction of Colnel John Bourgeois, performed Grainger's Marching Song of Democracy, W. F. McBeth's When Honor Whispers and Shouts, and Wagner's Procession to the Cathedral from Lohengrin. Benjamen Zander led the orchestra in a performance of Mahler's Symphonie No. 5.
