My sons woke the dawn with fire and thunder.
My sons have taken the sword of God in hand.
My sons have struck mankind's evil spirit, with courage and vigor.
I sit, wait, envying their manhood.
Remembering the days young,
When the same courage stirred this selfsame heart.
At the same, I, the Fathers must wait,
Hoping not to cry:
"Oh Absalom, my son, my son!"
