THE CHAPLAIN'S LAST CALL

Be still you mighty sounds of war

Silence and cease your roar!

Do you not know that up above

God is opening heaven's door?

For a life which was spent as a go-between

To our soldiers and the Master on high

While he taught them the good and right of life

He prepared them for death at their side

Listen and hear the angel's breath

As it gloriously sweeps our midst

Holy attesting our chaplain's death

God's servant who now is at rest

Alas, hear this cry for a precious quiet

We need this moment for prayer

For a band of angels will come tonight

To escort this soul elsewhere

Tomorrow let loose your weapon's hiss

And let battles and war go on

But tonight we honor this soldier of God

Who has answered his call to go home
