| Mark Burchill is being targeted by a multitude of English clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday. The young striker has as yet failed to agree a new contract at Celtic Park and is now free to negotiate a pre-contractual agreement. Celtic are showing something of a lack of ambition, they failed to spend money introducing new talent at the begining of the season and are now failing to keep their exisiting stars. So far it appears that Celtic will begin the 1999/2000 season without Donnelly, O'Donnell, Weighorst and McKinlay. It is also sad that we may lose rising stars like Burchill, McBride and Anthony. These young players could emerge into great Celtic players of the future, in the case of Mark Burchill he has already won over a lot of the fans. This could be a major crossroads. Clearly Fergus McCann wants to reduce the size of the squad so that the size of Celtic plc's wage bill is reduced. Reducing the wage bill may be beneficial to the value of Celtic plc in the short term, thus benefiting Mr McCann however the loss of players could be a devastating blow to our future success. |
