A fine performance by Celtic, who deservedly took all three points though neutral observers might argue that St Johnstone were better than the scoreline suggests. A hat-trick from recalled Harald Brattbakk cut helped cut the gap between Celtic and league leaders Rangers to 13 points, with Joseph Venglos' men having a game in hand. As a contest the match was over by the break with goals from Norweigan striker Brattbakk, Moravcik and Larsson giving Celtic a 3-0 lead. Brattbakk's and Larsson worked well together,the Swede who having benefited from Brattbakk's work for his 21st strike of the season on the stroke of half-time, returned the compliment with interest by unselfishly creating Brattbakk's simple second-half double.
