Rangers 2 - 2 CelticKick off 6pm Sunday 3rd JanuaryAttendance 50,059Celtic fans will have mixed feelings reflecting upon an exciting old firm clash this evening. Celtic were clearly denied a blatant penalty, however Paul Lambert will surely consider himself luck not to have been dismissed after a poorly timed tackle when he was already on a yellow card. A point each was probably a fair result however both teams should have taken their respective chances to seal the game. Rangers were dominant in the first twenty minutes and will be dissapointed they did not capitalise on this. However it was Celtic who took the lead through an Alan Stubbs drive of some quality. The lead did not last long however as Gabriel Amato superbly headed the home side level in what was the last play of the first half. In the second half Celtic appeared confident and looked as though they might have the measure of Rangers however around ten minutes into the second half came a turning point. Stephane Mahe was clumsily brought down by Kanchelskis in the area and only Jim McClusky can know why a penalty was denied. Gabriel Amato and Rod Wallace conspired to rub in the bhoy's wounds with a quality goal crafted by a display of great skill by Amato and formidable finishing by Wallace. Celtic gained a deserved equaliser after a spectacular 25 yard drive by Moravcik rattled the crossbar and fell back into the path of Larsson who clinically headed past Klos. Celtic had a couple of further chances to clinch all the spoils but Stubbs was to be denied by the crossbar. An enjoyable game to watch, dissapointing result for Celtic as three points were something of a necessity but nonetheless an encouraging performance. |
