I remember Sylvia with somewhat long hair and a sweet laugh.
Being both military brats,
we met in England when we were about 12 years old.
We didn't keep in touch after I left England.
When I was 17, I met someone who told me
that he thought he heard that Sylvia's family
had been in a tragic accident.
But, he wasn't sure, and I cried when I heard this.
For years, I wondered.
I wrote this song a decade or so after I heard.
It was during the recording of  my Rain Baby CD
that I discovered her whereabouts, and contacted her.
Sylvia, I am glad I found you.

Sylvia
for Sylvia

Sylvia,
When I heard the news, it was years after the fact.  I'm just sorry I wasn't there for you when you realized your family wasn't coming back.  When I found out, I cried awhile.  I remembered you were the sweetest friend I knew then.  And, though it's been almost twenty years since we parted, I cannot forget you...I wonder about you...Sylvia, was the pain worth the life you lived?  Did you give up or even make it?  Sylvia, was this life worth the pain you held?  Did you endure, or just fall back down?
I remember well your smile and simple ways about you.  We were only kids, but something told me that you were special.  If anything, of all the lives that you encountered, mine was the one you really changed.  Sylvia, was the pain worth the life you lived?  Did you give up or even make it?  Sylvia, was this life worth the pain you held?  Did you endure, or just fall back down?
