Leon's Coho Candy
A Leon Guthrie Fly
Leons Coho Candy, A Leon Guthrie Fly

Name Leon's Coho Candy
Category Coho Salmon, Steelhead, and Rainbow Trout
HookSalmon Single size 4
BodyTie on 6 pieces of Fluorescent Pink Antron Body Wool for tail, then tie on and wind pink chenille (FSC3) stopping 1/4 inch behind hook eye. Tie off and cut thread. Using clear hot melt glue and a glue Gun, form a glue ball (Hold hook eye with crocodile clip). While applying the hot melt glue, rotate to keep the ball round and even until it sets. Now tie on orange or fire orange thread. Take some small portions of Veniard Glister Sparkle Dubbing (PEARL) and tie each small portion one at a time, going around the hook shank in front of the glue ball. Do not overdress with sparkle dubbing. Finish head with thread.
CommentsSuccessful pattern catching Steelhead and Rainbow at local fishery. Should be good for Coho or other species. Tight Lines!

This pattern was originated and tied by Leon Guthrie of Galashiels, Scotland. You can see more of his originals at The Flies of Leon Guthrie. See his notes below.

LEON'S NOTES: Been fishing today, and catching a lot at the fishery with this one. It is far, far more superior in my opinion than the original Coho Candy so putting this one down was a Treat! Really delighted with this one. Should be excellent for Atlantic or whatever Salmon. Easy to make as well.
