Name Leon's Blue Teal Assassin
Category Salmon and Trout Species
Hook Alex Jackson Spey Hook ( Size of your Choice) also Single and Double Hooks size 10
Body Materials Fire Orange Thread 8/0, Dyed Bucktail, (Yellow. Natural and Red) Gold or Silver Ribbon or Wire. Teal Feathers, and Blue Cock Hackle Feather. Jungle Cock Eye's. Real or substitute.
Body Dress First apply tail tag with Fire Orange Thread, keep in line with hook barb and make length of tag to stop in line with hook point. Then apply Gold or Silver Ribbon or wire for length of body. Now apply in sequence a small portion of Bucktail (Yellow) then (Natural) then finally on top the Red Bucktail, Ensure the length of Bucktail extends well beyond the hook bend. And keep the proportions very slim. Apply a little super glue each time you apply the Bucktail to the hook this keeps all the Bucktail fibers together permanently. Now apply a clump of Teal Feathers under the throat tied in at the same area as you tied the bucktail , Now apply a Jungle Cock Eye on each side at the same area. keeping Jungle cock eye slanting slightly upward. Now apply a fairly large Blue Cock Hackle and finish the pattern with a Fire Orange thread Head.

Leon's Blue Teal Assassin is a break from his recent Novelty Series flies to a practical fly for trout and Atlantic Salmon. See his notes about this fly below and you can see more of Leon's work at The Flies of Leon Guthrie.

Leon's Notes: This is an excellent pattern for both Salmon and Trout Species. and is only made in 2 versions being Gold or Silver Body. The pattern is based on combining two deadly patterns, the Blue/Teal & Silver Fly and The Assassin or Mickey Finn. This pattern is most productive on rivers here in Scotland. This is also dressed as a Tube Fly with Treble hook.
