Image Capture Test

August 20, 2000

Conditions of the test:

All images were taken from the same frame of a Digital 8 tape made with the Sony TRV720 camcorder mounted with a OpticZoom 5X telephoto lens. The subject, a great blue heron, was fishing in a pond about 100 feet away from the camera.
An unadjusted image captured by each of the three devices was saved as a jpg file.
Each image was adjusted for contrast and sharpnes using the internal controls of each capture device and saved as a jpg file.

Results:

Table 1.

No Adjustment

Snappy Deluxe 3.0
Memory Stick
Firewire

CONCLUSION: The images captured by the memory stick and adjusted in Picture Gear software appear sharper; a quality that I was looking for.
