Friendship One *Synopsis: A misguided decision on Earth circa 2067 sends destruction to an alien planet in the form of nuclear radiation. Although Janeway believes they can reverse the effects for the few who remain, she is halted by their hostility and distrust for all things from Earth. Webmistress's thoughts: There are a few interesting points this episode brings up, one especially about the unseen Lt. Carey. For seven years Lt. Carey has not been seen in any episode. He was in the first one working in engineering, and never showed up again. Finally, almost at the end of the series, he shows up and they kill him. What was that all about? Were the writers trying to satisfy some fan's needs of knowing what happened to him? Well now we know what happened to him. Still, whatever happened to the criminal justice system? I haven't read the Starfleet Code of Conduct, but punishment for crimes can't be much different 300 years from now. Lt. Carey was killed and his attacker should pay the price for his death. When Janeway rescued the away team, it was a good thing that Paris and Kim convinced her to help the people on the planet. It was obvously an accident that Friendship One caused the destruction of an entire planet and people. By exploding the modified photon torpedos, they were able to save the planet and take three extra years off their journey. This was the true goal of Friendship One. This episode was pretty good and original, but because they killed Lt. Carey it gets a B+. There are only three episodes left. Warp speed Mr. Paris! Your Thoughts Give me your thoughts! |
