Author, Author *Synopsis: April 18, 2001 NEW EPISODE! Special Guest Appearance by Dwight Schultz Impressed with his own artistic merit, the Doctor plans to publish a holo-novel based on an exaggerated and unflattering portrayal of a thinly disguised starship crew. Webmistress's thoughts: The doctor has a great sense of humor. I thought this episode was very funny, perhaps the most funny of any Voyager episode. What the doctor started will mean new rights for holograms. Will this be expanded to all holograms or just holograms with their own sense of self? It is a very difficult thing to decide whether or not they should be considered human and given full rights. Take for example Moriarte in The Next Generation. He took over the Enterprise and almost caused everyone to die because of it. Anyone can create a holographic character. If they're aware of the sentience, should they be able to claim the rights of a typical human even if their skills require them to be holograms and serve humans? At the end of the episode, we saw the Doc's "brothers" working underground as slaves. They seemed to be on the verge of aquiring sentience and start an uprising for liberation. The question is, is what the doc started intended to help or hurt? They are getting very close to home now, only 5 episodes away from the final episode and the end of Voyager.
