Double Dare (Classic)

Host: Alex Trebek
Announcer: Gene Wood

Premise: Two challengers compete to identify the mystery subject from separate isolation booths.

Rules: The game starts with Alex showing the audience and viewers the subject for the round. The subject could be any noun. Alex would then start reading clues one at a time to the two players. If neither player buzzes in to guess, Alex reads the next clue. The clues begin with very vague, and become more obvious as the round continues. Alex keeps reading and showing clues until one of the players buzzes in to guess.

The other player is then locked out from hearing the player's guess. If correct, he or she wins $50 and has a choice: end the round or dare the opponent to solve the puzzle on the next clue, which shown to the daring player. If the dared player can identify the subject after seeing the Dare clue, $100 is credited to the dared player. If not, the daring player can "double dare" for $200 on the next clue. A player can win up to $350 on one subject if he is good and makes good dares.

If a player buzzes in and guesses incorrectly, his booth is shut off, and the opponent gets to see a penalty clue, and make a free guess to the subject. After that, the game continues.

Winning: The first contestant to amass $500 wins the game and challenges the Spoilers in the bonus game.

Spoilers: Three Ph.Ds are in isolation booths. The champion is given the subject, and has the choice of eight numbered clues to give to the Spoilers. After each clue, the contestant may give the clue over to the Spoilers, or pass iit. Four passes were allowed, thus four clues were given. After each clue given to them, each Spoiler got a guess. Incorrect guesses won $100 for the champ. Correct guesses eliminated that Spoiler from further play. If at least one of the three Spoilers did not manage to guess the subject, the champ won $5000. After that, the champion got to face a new challenger.

Home Play: Find two isolation booths in your attic, and you're in business! An e-mail version I've hosted kinda works...
Travis' Review: Having never seen an episode, I can't say much except the gameplay is great, and Mark created a real brainbuster in "DD." Picking Alex to host is a good move too. "I was created in 1948."-Given "I am a composite of various world leaders' faces." "I prey on your worst fears." "Some of my followers do their best work in Room 101." "I can see you; and my image is everywhere." "I lent my name to a television show which runs three months out of the year," "No matter how hard you try, you can't turn me off." "My message is spread through four Ministries."
