Richard Irvine's High Elves

My High Elf army is far from complete; the most glaring emmisions are the White Lions. I will get these as soon as my financial situation allows (bloody GW prices!) So far my army consists of a general, two mages, a chariot, a RBT, a unit of Silver Helms, a unit of Swordmasters,Spearmen and Archers, and, of course, a Dragon. I am currently painting up aunit of Ellyrian Reavers and another chariot (you can never have enough chariots!)Ellyrian Reavers should never be underestimated. They are light, cheap (sort of!)cavalry, but can skirmish. This is extremly useful, as they can hold up unitsfor ages. They suffer no 'shoot and move' penalty, although you need quitea few to do any real damage this way. Also they can have a free march move beforethe beginning of the battle, allowing them to get stuck in to the action right from thestart.

I have a Repeater Bolt Thrower. Need I say more? These machines are fantastic! Every High Elf army should have one. They go through ranks and allow no armour save. I do need another though, which I will get soon (hopefully).

I field my General with a variety of Magic Items, but most usually I use the'Sword of Heroes'.

My Silver Helms are my most useful unit. If I give them the 'Standard of Shielding'in addition to barding, heavy armour and shield, they have a 1+ save. This meansthat only models with a strength of 4 or more can actually penetrate theirarmour!!!

I bought the Silver Helms and the Reavers with a chariot and general in a special £50 'High Elf Cavalry Patrol' Box Set. Using one chariot, I saw just how hard these machines were (I was left gibbering scythes! scythes!), so when a mate (ta Alisdair) offered me another for free, I jumped at the chance. Those impact hits are fantastic!

The Swordmasters hit hard (and I mean hard!) Hoever this unit is too small for my liking at the moment, so I need quite a few more before it's much use.

Every High Elf army needs archers; after all, they can shoot in TWO RANKS!The only problem is that they are relatively weak. You need to make surethat no one can get through your rock hard army, so your archers will cometo no harm.

Spearmen can also be bought cheaply in plastic form. I actually think that because they are standing to attention, they are the best looking of the old plastic ranges. Anyway, in terms of fighting, they are cool two. The citizenlevy allows them to fight in one extra rank! That's three ranks when they arecharged and two when they charge. That means that even if a unit destroys your entire front rank, the other two ranks can still fight back!

My pride and joy in terms of painting is my Dragon (when I add pictures of myarmy to this page you'll see why!) As everyone knows they are great to use as well. I field mine as a 'Blue Dragon' (well, he is blue). This means he breathes lightning bolts in the shooting phase. Look out for new additions and pictures soon!
