THE WHITE HOUSE
Washington
March 16, 1998

Warm greetings to everyone celebrating the Iranian New Year.

People from every region of the world have made profound and lasting contributions to our society. As we seek to become a more united people, we must remember our roots, for they remind us of who we are and of what we have to share with others.

The rich vibrant Iranian-American culture has helped make America strong. From business to the arts, from government to academia, Iranian Americans play an important part in advancing the peace and prosperity that our country enjoys today.

On March 21, all peoples of Iranian heritage will celebrate the first day of spring and the arrival of the Iranian New Year 1377. I join with Americans of Iranian heritage in celebrating the spirit of community that binds us together as one nation and in hoping that the day will soon come when the United States can once again enjoy good relations with Iran.

Best wishes for a memorable celebration.

Bill Clinton
