Can Am road test archives

It seems that most of the Pontiac Can Am road tests in 1977 were done with a prototype that had the base 400 engine and highway gearing. Some of the tests included here indicate pretty lame performance as a result. (A W72 400 Can Am was capable of a mid 15-second quarter mile.)

Pontiac had a long association with Jim Wangers, head of their favorite advertising agency and a real 'car guy' and drag racer. Jim was infamous for supplying "supertuned" musclecars to magazine testers. ...wonder what he thought when these articles came out back in 1977.

Original Road Tests:

"Half-Breed" - Hot Rod, March 77

"Short Take" - Car and Driver, May 77

"Driving Impression" - Super Stock, May 77

"Driving Impression" - Street Machine, November 77

"Shades of the GTO" - Muscle Car Review, May 88
