My Life (so far)

My name is Lacie. For the past ten years or so, I lived in a lovely place on an island in the Puget Sound, in Washington state. I do medical transcription for a living, which I've done since about 1978. One of the online sites that I've found most helpful is the Keeping Abreast of Medical Transcription (KAMT) list. There is a link to them on my links page.

My family is a little spread out, but not by much. Last April I moved down to the Tacoma area with my wonderful, hard-working sister and her family. My sis's motto MUST be "The more, the merrier." She has four cats, three big dogs, an iguana, three kids, a sister who has two cats, and a husband. My sister (Erin), her husband (Dan), and her family (my darling nieces and my nephew; Kallie, Meghan, and Kyle, whom I adore), live just outside Tacoma, Washington, as do my brother and his wife (Staff and Michele) and their cat, Sylvester. They just added a fluffy girl to their family, the sweet Pumpkin -- she is VERY adorable! I have a stepsister (Roni) and her husband (Tony) who also live near Tacoma with their two girls. Mother (Ann) lives on the coast in a resort; she has a GORGEOUS view. My father (Stan) and his family (wife Carol and daughter Jillian) live in Georgia near where he grew up.

Here I am.

I collect cat figures (wood, ceramic, metal, pictures, crystal, porcelain, etc., etc. I also have three live cats, Spotzilla, Sassyone, and the big Moosie.

From top left to bottom, these are Spot, Moosie, and Sassy. As you can see, they don't waddle too far from the food dish. *grin*

I'm in a wheelchair. I have been for my entire life; I'm paralyzed from the second lumbar vertebra down (L2 para), which is an extremely low level (thank You, God). That means that I still have some movement in my thighs, and a little feeling to the tops of my thighs. To me, being in a wheelchair is a non-issue; the things that I hate about being disabled are the lovely perks that go along with any SCI (spinal cord injury); i.e., chronic pain, pressure sores, spasms, and urinary tract infections. Fully 25% of people with spinal cord disruptions will die of infection, which is a VERY scary thought for me. I have a lot of problems with urinary tract infections that seem to be getting worse as I grow older.

I chat in the New Mobility magazine chat site, there are a lot of disabled people that chat in there, and I've made some very good friends there. There's a link to that site on my next page, and links to some of my friends' pages. If you're disabled, the NM site can be helpful to you; being around others who have similar problems is very eye-opening, sometimes comforting, sometimes exasperating, sometimes just plain fun. Check them out!

My favorite things to do are cross-stitch, read, listen to music (country, swing, and blues), go to the beach, and play on the computer.

This is my sister, Erin, and me. Erin is not only my sister, but my very best friend. Erin, I hart you deer!!
