A Screenwriter's Journal
Crucial Links

Here are some great places to bookmark!
Just click on the title to visit it!

Scriptrep.com
A brand new website (as of 2001) designed to cultivate the aspiring screenwriter. They contacted me asking to swap links, so I checked them out. This is certainly a worthwhile site! I had to pay for much of the information Scriptrep.com offers for free. They also have contests and pages for up-to-date success stories.

And their links/resources page... whooee! It beats the snot out of THIS page, I tells ya! I guess if I were a shrewd site owner, I'd steal all their links for my own website! It's an impressive (and comprehensive) list.

Film Connection
Film Connection: an entertainment industry talent placement service with 5,000 students worldwide who train on-site at major film studios, video production companies, radio and TV stations, recording studios and record labels.
Drew's
Script-o-Rama
I try to read as many scripts as I can. For a while, I was reading at least one script per night.

As a former English instructor, I noticed that the students who read on a regular basis wrote more clearly than those who did not read. These students understood how words and ideas flowed because they had been consistantly exposed to them. I feel the same way about script writing.

Writers who read other writings will increase their own writing skill. Drew's Script-o-Rama has an excellent selection of Blockbuster scripts, Television scripts, and especially fresh screenplays written by writers looking for producers and/or representation. You get a good mix of the well written scripts and the poorly written scripts.

Scriptwriter's Chatroom
I'm not much of a "chat" person, but this is an interesting room to visit. You'll meet people who are serious about what they do. Not only that, the host, Charles Deemer, is a rather nice guy. Very helpful too.

It's not really like a chatroom... it's more like "post a message; wait a couple of seconds; check to see if anyone posted something after you", and then you do it all over again. This way, you can leave a "chat" message for someone who may not be there when you're on, but might pop on sometime later in the day.

A nice thing about this room is the fact that you can log on to read all the posted "chat" messages that went on for that day --problems and successes that individuals have experienced with their writing.

FORUMS
Message Board
I visit the FORUMS message board most often. I don't always post something --I mostly wait until there are questions about format, structure, development and so on.

There are a lot of helpful people here. It's an excellent resource.

The response time is very good too!

Done Deal
Agency List
Now HERE'S a site I wish I had found a long time ago! If you are looking for an agent, and see ads everywhere telling you to buy The Hollywood Agents and Managers Directory, hold off until you've checked this out!

After spending about $60, I spent a ton of time creating a database of California agents from The Hollywood Agents and Managers Directory, and then I found this site. ARRG! Everything in the directory is RIGHT HERE!!

Just bookmark the site, print up the agencies, and put them in your database! I could have saved my $60!

DO YOU NEED AN AGENT?!
Chadwick & Gros
Literary Agency
Now This is a writer's dream come true! An agent visited this site and said "hi" in my guestbook! Her name is Anne Piazza, and she's prompt and pleasant. But get this... not only is she an agent, but she's the director!

FRESH BLOOD is what she's looking for! I wrote more about this in my Journal for January 09, 1999. Go check it out.

But here are THE steps of submission you must go through to be considered for representation:

1) Query - it had better be well written!
2) Synopsis(50 w.) & High Concept Logline
3) Bio Notes - include writing history.
4) Your Script's Evolution - be brief!
5) A Pitch - You'll be asked for this.
6) A Signed ENTRY AGREEMENT
7) A Treatment - in III or IV Acts.
8) YOUR SCRIPT!
Whatever you do, and whatever you send, BE PROFESSIONAL! She makes it clear at her site to be succinct and clean!
Procrastinating Screenwriter's Page Here's an amusing page! Loosen up! Check it out! This is a requirement, I think, if you're going to be a screenwriter --HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR! Love what you do! Enjoy your art, your skill!

The owner of this particular site, Mike Senchyshak, has mastered that! He's the type who won't forget where he came from when he makes it big! Don't you either!
