Description: Deep brown to dark black body with a red forked caudal fin. The health of this fish can be told by a velvety black and brilliant red. The points of the dorsal and anal fins are white. It has two sets of barbels with a downward turned mouth. The belly is slightly curved and it has a convex back. Grows to 4 3/4" (12cm). The female's caudal fin is less vivid in color, and her body is heavier and larger. Is shy and nocturnal, and is sometimes aggressive, but mostly towards its own kind but they do not seriously harm each other. This shark likes hiding places such as plants and bog wood.
Diet: Algae, boiled lettuce or spinach leaves, and live foods.
Environment: Water temperature of 73-81F (22.8-27.2C) with a pH of 7.1-7.3 and a hardness of about 10DH.
Tank Mates: Cichlids.
