A gem in the bush…

It is said that Gods always play where the groves are, near rivers, mountains and springs and in towns with pleasure-gardens (Brihatsamhita). Hindus from all over the world recognise that Sri. Balaji temple at Tirupathi invokes that kind of serenity and divinity. Some of the great Shiva temples of north and South India instil that awe and supreme presence in the midst of nature. For the Hindu families of Sydney, Helensburgh Temple, no less, provides that inspiration, a guiding light, through a combined grandeur of Sri.Balaji and Sri.Shiva nestled on the edge of a beautiful Royal National park, close to the Pacific Ocean. It is indeed ‘a gem in the bush’, as ABC TV called the temple in their ‘coast to coast’ program.

Lately, this gem in the bush has been shining better than ever. Devotees have noticed a flurry of activities, not only inside with many elaborate poojas but also outside with three Rajagopurams nearing completion and several idols installed. A fully finished temple, inside and outside, at its best, is just a few months away.

In the process, the SVT temple reveals its unique and exceptional quality (mahima):

This positive atmosphere is evident in large number of Sydney families attending many elaborate poojas, cultural events, Gita Classes and Concerts at the temple, more frequently than ever. Family groups are undertaking or sponsoring activities like special Poojas, Chanting, singing Bhajans, annadhanams (prasadams/lunch) or other services on special occasions. A trip to the Helensburgh temple is truly a treat for mind, body and spirit. There is a ‘mahima’ that can not be denied.

A service to the temple is a service to your ‘self’.

Lord Krishna said, “Fixing the mind upon Me with great faith, those ever steadfast devotees who meditate upon Me, are considered to be the best Yogis by Me”.

-------------------Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 12 verse 2)

To serve the Lord, please join the volunteers of SVT. They are active in many ways, from organising musical evenings, talks, cultural events & funds drive to help conduct poojas, temple cleaning, painting, maintenance etc. Every bit of assistance helps. Be a volunteer.
