The Call Chapters 1-2
Chapter One
June 1998
"I can't believe you're coming here!" Isabel said into the telephone.
"Izzy, I need a break. I'd rather spend it with you than spend it alone."
"Oh, you're so sweet. So when is your flight coming in?"
"6:15 PM next Friday."
"Ok, baby, I'll see you then."
"I love you, Izzy."
"I love you, too, Howie. See you soon."
Isabel hung up the phone, stretched out on her bed, and sighed. Life was perfect. She just finished her second year of college. She had a great boyfriend, whom she couldn't wait to see. Since she was in school and he was on tour, they barely saw each other.
"Oh, man, life can't get much better than this," she thought. Then her phone rang.
"Yeah?"
"Izzy! You're home!" her best friend, Star, screamed.
"Hey, Star! What's up?"
"Nothing. What's new with you?"
"Nothing much. I just got home."
"Oh. Hey, before I forget. Lisette wants us to get together next Friday to celebrate your homecoming."
"Star, I can't. Howie is coming next Friday."
"He is? We should've thought of that. We know you guys don't really get to see each other."
"Star, it's ok. I haven't seen him in two months, but still I call him or he calls me. I miss his smile, though."
"I hope Robert and I will be as happy as you and Howie are."
"You will. I'm sure of it. Tell him I said hi. Tell Lisette I'm sorry. Wait a second. Today is Wednesday, right? See if her, Elena, and Chrissy can get together this Friday."
"Ok, Izzy, see you later."

Chapter Two
Two Days Later
"Oh my God, Izzy! I can't believe that Howie is coming next week!" Lisette exclaimed.
"Lisette, it's no big deal. He's been here before."
It was a big deal. Howie was the love of her life. Sure, the others had boyfriends, but they were always around.
"So what are you two going to do?" Star asked.
"I'm not sure. Probably go out dancing or something like that," Isabel said.
Then the doorbell rang. They all crowded around the door. Next thing Isabel knew, she saw Howie on Lisette's doorstep.
"Oh my God! When did you get here?" she asked as she was hugging him.
He just smiled. "Are you surprised?"
"Yes, I am, but I thought you weren't coming until next Friday."
"I lied. We had this planned for a month." He turned to her friends. "Mind if I steal her?"
They all laughed. "No, go ahead!" all four of them exclaimed.
He held out his hand. "Shall we?"
She smiled and put her hand in his. "We shall."
He led the way to his rented, forest green Toyota Celica. "So where are we going?" Isabel asked.
"That's a surprise, my beautiful Isabel."
She sighed. "Life is perfect," she thought. "It's just perfect."
"Izzy? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm so happy you came here. I missed you."
"I missed you, too."
