Originally the red guards were a very selective band of mercenaries only picking from the cream of the crop. Out of all the mercenaries in the lands, only the bravest, most courageous and legendary could have a spot in the guards, and as the ranks of the guards swelled with the hardened men and women, there came many great disasters for the guards, the greatestof which was the trouble they had securing any kind of contract, which was resulting from the expectency of high pay for any kind of deal, and as such none save the richest lords could even dream of securing the red guards talents, and they all had their own army's or militas, and so the guards went with out pay for months before the first walkouts occured. These walkouts signaled the demise of the guards, but not because of the bane of a greater power, but of own strength. And as such, the army was disbanded several months after the first walkouts. As the majority of the guards army split itself and left there remained but one unit left, the most powerful of their units the infamous "Guardians" these guardians were the bodyguards of the officers of the guards, and were sworn and loyal to their commanders. But the loyalty of the guardians was not even left in place, as the officers left, abandoning the one remaining figure of command, the general of the Red Guards himself, Kalfor Dioes the feared leader of the army, was left with nothing save his own weapons, and had not even enough money to pay for one nights sleep in the poorest inn anywhere. But as the dust of leaving officers and their troops settled, their was left but Akhan Loh, who had been a friend of Kalfor since his childhood, and his 50 Gaurdians, all that remained of perhaps the greatest army of all time. What events partook through the next 300 years are still a mystery, but out of those 50 soldiers was born a mighty power of not only troops but explorers architechs, and hundreds of other jobs which turned the greatest army of all time into the largest band of diversified mercanaries in the world of Atriana.
