Disclaimer: I don't own them.
Summary: Okay, they're all on a field trip (obviously), and Pacey kissed Joey. Then he pulled away and acted like it never happened. Read the first five parts if you want to know what is going on…
Notes: I'm finished! Yeah buddy! But I'm not doing anymore. This may upset some of you, but I'm not interested in the show anymore. I rarely watch it. I'm sorry this took so long. I just never had any interest in finishing it lately. But, now it is over. A big thanks to Katie for proofreading all of my stories, which I know probably looks bad when I send them to her. Okay here we go.
Jen: Come on, PLEASE?
Joey: No, I refuse to do it. I will not stoop to that level.
Jen: But you did earlier! And you said it looked good.
Joey: It did. But, if I am going to get back with Pacey, I refuse to try to impress him. That includes not getting all done up for the damn dance. I'll wear what I want to wear.
Jen: Fine! I give up.
Joey: Good.
(Jen sat down and looked at her.)
Jen: Could you at least where a skirt?
Joey: AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Dawson: You ready Pacey?
Pacey: Hold up man. What's your rush? You got a woman waiting for you. It isn't like you got to rush. If any one should be rushing, it should be me.
Dawson: And whose fault is that?
Pacey: And what do you mean by that?
(But, Dawson was already out the door, standing on the porch. Pacey didn't have to ask Dawson what he meant again. He knew what he meant.)
Jen: It's about time we had this dance. I've been waiting all week.
(Jen started to walk faster when she heard the music and the people.)
Joey: I hate dances. I don't see what the big deal is. We have them all the time.
Jen: You just don't want to go because of Pacey.
Joey: Well, yeah, there's that too, but I still don't like them.
Jen: Look on the bright side. If by some odd crazy reason I can't get you two back together, then you can find someone else at the dance.
(Jen gave her a hopeful smile.)
Joey: Yeah right. I wouldn't trust any of these dumb asses near me.
Jen: Oh come on Joey just try to be agreeable.
Joey: Okay fine. See, this is me trying.
(Joey gave a fake smile.)
Jen: Well at least make it look real.
Jen: Hey, look there's Dawson! (
She pointed over to the entrance and sped up.)
Joey: Yeah and with what's his name.
(Jen didn't hear her. She was already too far up ahead. Why did she come? She could've pulled off another day of being sick. Whatever. She refused to care. If anyone was going to avoid anyone, it was going to be him. So she hurried up to catch up with Jen.)
(Pacey saw Jen and Joey heading towards him and made up his mind not to care. But after he caught a glimpse of Joey's face, he thought if she got close enough she would probably take his head off. He decided to head out of there.)
Pacey: Hey D. I'm going to go inside.
(Dawson grabbed his arm.)
Dawson: Oh no you don't. What is your problem, man?
(Pacey glared at him. Dawson knew damn well what his problem was. Dawson sighed.)
Dawson: Look, just act regular. You know like you usually do.
Pacey: Yeah like I usually do. How's that?
Dawson: Smart, sarcastic, witty you know your usual charming self.
Pacey: I gotcha.
Jen: Hey babe!
Dawson: Hey, it took you two long enough. I thought you had found some better guys and left.
Jen: Never.
(She smiled and kissed him.)
Pacey: Not Joey. Only the animals come for her.
(Dawson grimaced. That wasn't exactly what he meant.)
Joey: Anything would be better then being in your presence.
(Jen looked at Dawson begging him to do something.)
Dawson: Um, well let's go inside. (He smiled and opened the door.) Ladies first.
(Pacey blocked Joey's way.)
Pacey: Ladies, not animals. Look at the sign, Joey. It says, "No animals allowed."
Joey: Hmm, then I guess we better not let you in, right?
(She grabbed hold of him and pushed him hard into the side of the door. She walked past him without a second look.)
Pacey: Violent much?
(Pacey walked into the dance.)
Jen: Uh, Dawson, this is not going as we planned. Instead of being themselves, they have doubled up on the smartass remarks. They will probably be hitting each other by the end of the dance instead of making up.
Dawson: Well, this is our last chance. We gotta make it work out.
(Well, her life is officially hell. Her best friend is wrapped up in his girlfriend, which doesn't bother her too much anymore since her recent experience. Except there is the fact that he isn't talking to Joey at all. The other mess in her life is that little rat over there that calls himself Pacey. How did a thing like him actually get a name? Okay, well maybe she was being a little mean. Deep down, she knew that she liked him a lot. She liked him enough that every girl he danced with, she felt like she was going to kick that girl's ass. He never looked at her either. It was like in the past couple of days his feelings just faded away. As much as she didn't want to admit it, it hurt really badly. She just wished he would come over to her and ask HER to dance. Not those other nasty girls he had been talking to. Or maybe just carry a conversation with her. She had been doing her best the whole dance to act like she didn't care. If he didn't, then neither would she.)
(He really wished she would stop talking to that guy. It was making him REALLY mad. He wanted to go over there and punch him. The guy wasn't doing anything really wrong except talking to her. He should be talking to her not that little dork. Why wasn't he talking to her then? He was too stubborn to give in. He really wanted to go over there and just talk to her. Even better, kiss her. He smiled. Too bad, it won't happen again. Then he frowned. Damn girl. Why couldn't she just come and talk to him? Oh well, he wasn't even going to worry about her, he didn't care. There were a lot of other girls here for him.)
Jen: All right, Dawson. I have had enough of this. I have sat back and watched them for most of the night. What have they done? Nothing! Except flirt with other people. I mean it is so obvious that they are trying to get back at each other. Why can't they realize it?
Dawson: For a simple reason, they like each other.
Jen: Well, in my opinion, it is time to take matters into our own hands.
(As if on cue a slow song came on.)
Jen: Go dance with Joey and I'll get Pacey and well, you know the rest.
Dawson: You are such a meddler.
(She smiled.)
Jen: I know. Now go.
(He followed her orders and went off in search of Joey before some other person asked her to dance. He saw her sitting down over in a corner.)
Dawson: Hey Jo.
Joey: Hey Dawson. What's up?
Dawson: Oh nothing except that I haven't asked my best friend to dance with me all night.
(Joey smiled.)
Joey: Are you asking me for a dance, Mr. Leery?
Dawson: Why, yes I am.
(He held out his hand, which she grabbed.)
Joey: Then I accept.
(Jen walked up behind Pacey and tapped him on the shoulder.)
Jen: Well, Pacey, you haven't asked me to dance yet so, I figured I'd ask you.
Pacey: I didn't know you wanted to.
Jen: Well I did. I have been waiting all night.
(He smiled, knowing she was joking with him.)
Pacey: Well then, I wouldn't want to make you wait any longer. Would you like to dance with me, Jen?
Jen: Hmm, I guess so.
(He laughed, and they walked onto the dance floor.)
(Dawson and Jen tried to keep Joey and Pacey busy by talking to them while in the meantime, Jen and Dawson were headed straight for one another, unbeknownst to either Pacey or Joey. In no time, they were standing right next to each other.)
Dawson: (Very innocently) Hey Jen, I wondered were you had disappeared to.
Jen: Well, when I couldn't find you, I had to find someone to dance with. But here you are now! I got an idea. Let's switch!
(Jen let go of Pacey as Dawson put Joey by Pacey. But they just stood there, neither one showing any intention of dancing with the other.)
Jen: Come on, what is your problem? Just dance.
(They still didn't move, making Jen very mad.)
Jen: Look, humor me, whatever! Just dance and stop acting like a bunch of babies!
(They looked at her, each sighing. Pacey took Joey in his arms, her body showing signs of reluctance. She decided to put up with it, considering Jen was a little more than irritated. Joey didn't want to piss her off anymore, plus she knew that Jen was really counting on this.)
Jen: I'm watching you two. If you don't finish out this dance, I am going to be very irritated.
(After that, Dawson and Jen moved over to the other side of the room, but were still able to keep Joey and Pacey in eyesight. They danced a little then Joey let out a sigh.)
Pacey: What was that for?
Joey: What was what for?
Pacey: That (he imitated her sigh).
Joey: Because this is boring.
Pacey: (Sounding mad) Well, you didn't look that bored with any of the other guys you danced with.
(Joey was a little surprised that he actually noticed or even told her that. But, mad people never think straight.)
Joey: I wasn't. They actually knew how to treat a girl.
(Pacey glared at her. He didn't know if he wanted to keep up this fighting with her or just leave, but he didn't leave.)
Pacey: So, you're still stuck on that, are you?
Joey: Still? It was just yesterday!
(She had a point there, he thought.)
Pacey: It didn't seem like it bothered you today.
Joey: Yeah well, I didn't see any remorse on your face.
(He didn't know what to say. It was obvious that she was still upset about it. He should've known that from the way he left her yesterday. He wanted to say something so bad. He didn't want her to be mad at him anymore. He just wanted to be with her. After just a couple of days, he liked her so much. He couldn't stand the thought of her being like this all the time towards him.)
Pacey: Maybe I'm just good at hiding it.
(Her expression softened. Truthfully, she really did think that he didn't feel anything anymore. She thought she had been another fling.)
Joey: Well, maybe I am too.
(Neither one said anything for a minute, and then, after the song ended, they pulled away from each other. Pacey glanced at the door, which a couple of kids had just walked in from. He grabbed hold of Joey's hand, and led her outside.)
Jen: Damn it! Where are they? They both just disappeared when the dance was over!
Dawson: I don't know, but I did see them talking during the dance if that makes you feel any better.
Jen: (Pointing at the door) Yeah, I saw them too. Hey look! There they are!
Dawson: There they go out the door. Think it's good?
Jen: Unless he was holding her hand and leading her outside to have another fight, I think it is.
(She smiled.)
Dawson: Well now that we don't have to worry about them for a little while, would you like to dance?
Jen: Of course.
(Joey really didn't know what was going to happen after the song was over. Would they just walk away from each other even though they both just said that they still cared for the other? But, she was really surprised when he grabbed hold of her hand and pulled her to the door. Her first instinct was to just pull away. But, if she did, it would probably ruin her only chance at happiness with him. She just let him lead her out the door. Once they got outside, he still didn't let go. He still held her hand, but he was looking around. Then he started walking again, still holding her hand. Well, this is good. She noticed they were heading towards one of the trails in the woods. Once they got on the trail, he let go of her hand. Damn. He didn't have to do that, she thought. He still didn't say anything. Normally, she could easily break the silence except that if she did, she would have to say something. He brought her out here, so it was obvious he had something to say. Then it occurred to her. What if this wasn't good at all? What if he just wanted to tell her that he had feelings for her, but he didn't think they could work it out? Oh god, PLEASE, don't let him say that. I'll die right here)
(Once he had gotten her on the trail, he let go of her hand, but he didn't know what to say. He knew why he had brought her out here, but what if she didn't feel the same? That would be wonderful, now wouldn't it? They just walked in silence, waiting for the other to say something. Oh well, he brought her out here, he might as well begin, he thought.)
Pacey: Joey, I...
Joey: Look, Pacey, just spit it out. If you are here to tell me that you don't think it would even work like we decided yesterday, then just spit it out. To tell you the truth, what I said yesterday when I agreed with you, I didn't even mean it.
Pacey: Well, um, it isn't that reason. I hadn't even thought about that. About yesterday, like you said when we both agreed that it wouldn't work out, I didn't mean it either. I was just getting mad, and I couldn't help what I said. I was actually surprised when you agreed with me. I didn't think you would. Joey Potter never gives in.
(She smiled.)
Joey: I guess my stubbornness has gotten me into trouble quite a few times. (She finally looked at him.) It also has taken away something I really care about.
(He stopped and looked down at her.)
Pacey: Look, Joey. I am going to say it again and hope we can do it differently this time. I am sorry about when we kissed. I really didn't mean to make you feel like that. I was just thinking of myself at the moment and I hadn't thought about how much it would hurt you. If I had known, I would have thought twice about doing what I did.
Joey: I'm sorry for not accepting your apology yesterday. I was being stubborn like you said. But, you had hurt me and I just couldn't forgive you that easily. When you all of a sudden got mad at me and told me that you didn't think it would work, all I wanted to do was take back all the things I said.
(He smiled and grabbed hold of her hand and started walking again.)
Pacey: So, what do we do now?
Joey: Well, I don't know. It depends.
Pacey: On what?
Joey: What we are now. I mean, we were never really together, so it is obvious that we are not back together. Do we decide that we just want to be friends, which I am totally against? Anyway, just a little while ago you said that wasn't the reason we were out here. Right?
Pacey: Right.
Joey: All right, then we gotta decide how we are going to handle this. Do we want to take it slow and just let it play itself out to see if we really like each other? I am totally against that because I have had enough drama in my life the past few days to just "wait it out." Then, there's the final one.
(Pacey laughed and smiled.)
Pacey: And what's that?
Joey: Well, this is actually the simple one. Do we want to be together? Which one do you choose?
Pacey: In my opinion, I am fonder of the last choice. Like you said, we have been through too much these past couple of days to just wait it out. I have no interest in just being your friend. What about you?
(She stopped walking and faced him.)
Joey: I like the last one better.
Pacey: Then, it's decided. On this day, we are officially a couple.
Joey: Okay, so now what?
Pacey: First, I think we should do something about that messed up kiss the other day.
Joey: And what would that be?
Pacey: Try it again.
(Pacey put his arms around her waist and pulled her a little closer. As he bent down to kiss her, every doubt he had was gone. After all this, he was finally happy. Joey put her arms around his neck and pulled herself up to his level. Finally, someone taller than her. That was her last coherent thought as he deepened the kiss. The only thing she knew was that she was happy.)
(The dance was over and neither Jen nor Dawson had seen Joey or Pacey.)
Jen: Where are they? After all this time, I still don't even know how my own plan worked out.
Dawson: Maybe, they killed each other. I always thought it would happen one day after they both had enough of the other's smartass remarks.
(Jen smacked him on his side.)
Jen: You're not helping.
Sarah: Have you two seen Pacey? For some reason, he hangs out with you losers, and I thought you might know.
Jen: No, the last time we saw him was when he left the dance with Joey. We haven't seen them since. Gee, I wonder what they could have been doing?
(Sarah gave her a nasty look and then walked off.)
Dawson: Jeez, violent much, Jen?
Jen: I know, I've just been so messed up all day. I'm just not acting like myself. It's just this whole thing with Joey and Pacey is driving me crazy. I'm going to be put in a home before my time, and it is all going to be thier fault.
(Dawson laughed at her.)
Dawson: You are not going to be put in a home. Don't worry, you're very sane. You're right though. They have been driving us crazy. It would've been easier to shove them at each other and make them kiss.
(She laughed.)
Jen: Well, if they don't work it out tonight, I think we might try that. I better get going. All the other kids are going in.
Dawson: All right, I will see you in the morning.
(He gave her a kiss and walked off.)
Jen: Where are those two?
(Joey tried to be as quiet as she could when she entered her cabin. But, there was stuff all over from Jen, who started her packing. Jeez, did Jen bring enough stuff? She couldn't avoid the big bag in the middle of the floor, but was lucky enough to fall on the bed. Normally, she would've had a fit, but she felt so good right now that she just busted out laughing. Jen woke up right away and sat up.)
Jen: Where have you been? You just disappeared. You didn't even tell us what happened at all. I was beginning to think you two killed each other.
(Then she noticed Joey was laughing.)
Jen: Are you drunk?
Joey: What? No, I'm not drunk. Everything is funny to me right now.
(Jen looked at her like she was up to something before realizing what Joey was obviously happy about. Jen took a seat next to Joey on Joey's bed.)
Jen: So?
Joey: So?
Jen: Oh, come on.
Joey: All right, all right. We made up.
Jen: Yes! I knew I could do it.
Joey: Yeah well, I guess you did.
Jen: Are you two like a couple now or what?
Joey: We are going to do the boyfriend/girlfriend thing.
Jen: Okay, so that is five minutes described. What else happened? Come on, details!
Joey: Well, of course, we had a long talk first. You know, the apologizing stuff. Then, we had the talk where we decided what we wanted to be. Then, well, we did stuff.
(Jen's eyes widened.)
Joey: Not that kind of stuff!
Jen: Oh sorry. So, everything is better?
Joey: Yeah, everything is great.
Jen: Good.
(They just sat there for a while before Jen spoke up.)
Jen: Well, we have nothing to do. I am wide-awake and chances are that you are too. Why don't you tell me everything? I mean, everything from the time we put you two together at the dance until you walked in this door.
Joey: All right. Well...
(Dawson hadn't fallen asleep. Even though he was able to hide his feelings about this subject better then Jen could, he did feel similar to the way she did. He was worried about what would happen if they didn't make up. He didn't have to wait too long to find out because right away, Pacey walked into the cabin.)
Dawson: Well, Mr. Witter, you're a little late.
Pacey: Been busy.
Dawson: Doing what?
Pacey: Stuff.
Dawson: What kind of stuff?
Pacey: Stuff.
Dawson: Oh come on, Pacey. Don't be an ass. Just tell me what happened.
(Pacey laughed at him.)
Pacey: You're as bad as a girl is, man. You have to know every little detail.
Dawson: I don't want to know every little detail. I just want to know if you two made up and got together or not.
Pacey: Yes, we did. We talked, apologized, and decided to get together. Happy?
Dawson: Yeah.
(Dawson lay back down while Pacey changed and got into bed. He then turned out the light.)
Dawson: If you hurt her again, I'm going to have to beat you up the next time. Nothing personal. It's just that she's my best friend too.
Pacey: Dawson, it won't happen again. Just for the record, you wouldn't be able to beat me up.
(It was morning, and Dawson and Pacey had already loaded their stuff into the bus. Dawson walked over to where Pacey was sitting on the bench.)
Dawson: What's up with you?
Pacey: I'm tired.
Dawson: I would be too if I stayed out as late as you did.
Pacey: No, it is different then that. Don't worry about it.
(Dawson got up when he saw Jen and walked over to her while Pacey lay back on the bench.)
Dawson: Hey. Where's Joey?
Jen: Oh, she's still packing. I had started last night, so I finished early. What's up with him?
(She pointed over to Pacey, who was still lying down on the bench.)
Dawson: I don't know. I think he said he was tired or something.
Jen: He looks a little yucky.
Dawson: Who knows? Here, let me help you get your stuff on to the bus.
(Joey came down to the camp where everyone was putting their stuff on the buses, automatically looking for Pacey. She didn't see him anywhere. But, she did spot Dawson and Jen, so she walked over to them.)
Joey: Where's Pacey?
Jen: Over there.
(She pointed over to the bench where Pacey was.)
Joey: What's up with him?
Jen: I don't know.
Joey: Dawson, can you please put my stuff in the bus?
(He was going to tell her to do it herself, but she had said please and was already on her way over to Pacey.)
(Joey walked over to where Pacey was and stood over him. He opened his eyes a little, and smiled as he looked at her.)
Pacey: Hey
Joey: What's wrong with you?
Pacey: What, no "hello Pacey?" No "nice to see you, Pacey." Not even a kiss, this sucks.
Joey: Not if I want what you got.
(She smiled and bent over, giving him a light kiss on lips.)
Pacey: Well it's your fault, you know.
Joey: How?
Pacey: (Sneezing) You gave this to me.
(She laughed.)
Joey: You didn't seem to be complaining last night.
Pacey: Are you going to stand there and make fun of me or will you take care of me?
Joey: What do I look like, a nurse?
(He raised his eyebrows.)
Pacey: Do you have a nurse outfit? If you do, throw a pair of heels with it and....
Joey: Okay, don't even go there. Sit up a little.
(She sat down on the bench.)
Joey: All right, lay back. You are such a big ninny. You can't even handle a little cold.
Pacey: You didn't look that great when you had it.
(She smirked at him, but didn't say anything. It was nice to just sit there with him. She noticed a couple of people staring at them. The word was going to get around fast. Oh well, she didn't care as long as he was there with her. She looked around for Jen and Dawson, but didn't see them. She looked down at Pacey. He had his head in her lap and his eyes were closed. She didn't even realize she had been playing with his hair. She smiled. He looked so cute lying there. It almost looked like he was sleeping. She was beginning to think he was until he spoke up.)
Pacey: Did you talk with Jen?
Joey: Yeah, she had to know every single detail too. I was surprised I actually got to sleep. What did Dawson say?
(He laughed.)
Pacey: At first, I didn't tell him until it looked like he was going to have one of his little fits. So, I told him. Later, he told me that if I did anything to hurt you again, he would beat me up.
Joey: He wouldn't have to. I would.
Pacey: You probably would.
(She yanked his hair.)
Pacey: Ow, do you mind? That's attached.
Joey: No, not at all. But, here comes Jen and Dawson.
Jen: Hey guys, what's up?
Pacey: I'm sick.
Joey: Don't feel sorry for him. He may look cute, but he just wants your sympathy.
Pacey: So, I'm cute?
Joey: A little.
Pacey: Now that's not what you said. You said I was cute.
Joey: (Rolling her eyes) Fine, you're cute. Happy?
Pacey: A lot actually.
(Dawson and Jen were just watching them. They were still acting the same, but just not as cruel. There was a little more to them now.)
Dawson: Hey guys, it looks like they're loading up.
Pacey: Then I guess we better go. If I fall, catch me.
(They made their way over to the bus and waited in line to get on.)
Jen: You know, you two don't act like you're going out.
Joey: What do you mean?
Jen: Both of you act the same towards each other as you did before. Just not so mean.
Pacey: We act different.
Jen: (Unconvinced) Uh huh.
Pacey: Watch.
(He grabbed Joey by her waist and kissed her. She was surprised at first, but kissed him back. They finally pulled away when they were out of breath. Jen and Dawson were just staring at them.)
Joey: (Out of breath) See different.
(Joey climbed onto the bus with Pacey right behind her.)
Pacey: Now, you get to be sick with me.
Joey: Yeah! When I get sick, I'll be over at your house to thank you.
(He raised his eyebrows.)
Pacey: That could be interesting.
Joey: Pacey, we are going to have to do something about those hormones of yours.
The End!
How was it? Please email and tell me. Remember that this was my last one, and I had a lot of trouble. I had gotten terrible writers' block. It hurt. =) For those who want to know, I am going to add a little idea of what their future is like. This is my story after all, and I can do anything I want.
Epilogue:
Pacey and Joey got married six years later with only a few problems in their relationship. They had two kids, a boy and a girl. In both of their careers, they were really famous and really rich. By the way, they were very, very happy. Remember that this is my story!)
