The Field Trip- Part 4

Title:The Field Trip

Part: 4

Category: P/J

Name: Calie

E-mail: Calie15@aol.com

Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters except for that ho that flirts with Pacey.

Summary: You have to read the first three parts of my series to understand what is going on. At this point, Pacey pulled away from Joey's kiss, and he is off to apologize. Will she forgive him or not? Read on to find out. This is a Joey/Pacey fan fic, but there is also some Jen/Dawson romance added. I want everyone to be happy.

Notes: I just want to say thanks to my friend Katie for proofreading all this crap, which I know must be aggravating. She also sends it in for me because I'm just too lazy. All you readers must check out my other series with Katie called the College Years. It's just as good as this one. Please send feedback to me at Calie15@aol.com . I would really appreciate it. Thoughts and actions are in parentheses.

(Pacey saw Joey's cabin and began reciting what he was going to say to her. If talking wouldn't do it, maybe he could fall to her feet and beg for her forgiveness. It looked like she was sleeping, so he just let himself in. Her back was turned to him, so he couldn't tell if she was really asleep. Just seeing her lying there all peacefully made him feel even worse about what he did. Pacey was about to leave her to her sleep, but then he heard a sniffle.)

Pacey: Joey?

(Joey shot right up and turned to look at him. She was a little surprised to see him because she had thought he didn't care. Her first instinct was to jump up and throw her arms around him. Quickly throwing that thought aside, her heart hardened at the memory of all he did to her.)

Joey: Pacey? What are you doing here?

Pacey: I, um, came to apologize for earlier.

Joey: What are you talking about?

Pacey: Jo, please don't play stupid because I know you're not.

Joey: Fine. What about earlier?

Pacey: Well, I didn't plan for it to happen like that.

Joey: (A little hurt) Oh, I see. You didn't even plan on kissing me? It was just some big rush of hormones, right? I understand. I guess this is a normal thing for you? When you start going hormone crazy, you start kissing random girls and I just got lucky?

Pacey: Joey, you know it's not like that.

Joey: Oh, I do? You could've fooled me. I could've sworn we were kissing. If I was kissing someone that I actually cared about, I don't think they would've hurt me the way YOU did. (From the way she was talking, it didn't even seem like she was sad. The way Jen had told him, he thought she was sitting here all depressed. He was wrong. She was in her angry stage now.)

Pacey: That's not how it was at all. I just got a little confused. I didn't know what to do. I'm really sorry. I didn't plan on kissing you and then pushing you away.

Joey: (Softening her voice a tiny bit) Is that supposed to make me feel better? You hurt me really bad, Pacey. What makes it even worse is the fact that it was the first time we kissed and actually showed our feelings for each other. As soon as it happened, you hurt me. If I even thought about forgiving you, how would I know that you wouldn't do it again? What happens the next time that you're "confused?"

(Pacey was speechless. She was right to have those feelings. How could she trust him again when he hurt her so badly? Then, he did the dumb thing. Instead of admitting she was right, he became defensive.)

Pacey: Joey, I don't care if you forgive me or not. I just thought I would come here and apologize to make you feel better. Maybe you were right. It might have just been hormones. Since you were the closest thing to the female gender around me, I couldn't help it.

(She didn't cry even though she was stung by his words. She wanted to, but she didn't. Instead, she just narrowed her eyes and pushed all of her feelings to a remote corner of her heart. She couldn't bring herself to say anything. She was too scared of showing how she really felt. Maybe she should've accepted his apology when he first offered it. She just couldn't though. He had hurt her, and she couldn't let that slide.)

Joey: Maybe you're right.

(Staring at her, he was unprepared for her to agree with him. For some reason, he was hoping she would say the opposite. But, he just got the most unfeeling reply he could ever imagine. Shaking his head, he wondered how he could've thought that Joey Potter, of all people, would try to compromise. Looking at him one last time, Joey grabbed a bag and headed to the showers.)

(Looking for Pacey, Jen continued to search the campgrounds. It had only been a little bit of time since he went to talk to Joey, but it seemed like it had been forever. If they did make up, she wouldn't see him for awhile. But if they were still against each other, he should be walking by real soon. As if on cue, Pacey walked from the direction of Joey and Jen's cabin. From the look on his face, she could tell things didn't go well.)

Jen: Well?

Pacey: Well what?

Jen: What the hell do you think I mean?

Pacey: Oh right. I went up there to talk to Joey, but she was her usual bitchy self. We threw a few insults at each other, and in the end, we decided we really didn't like each other.

(Jen looked disbelievingly at Pacey. She couldn't believe it. Even if they did fight, she expected him to show a little more emotion then what he was doing now.)

Dawson: Pacey, that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of. You don't just kiss someone and then decide to forget about it.

Pacey: Well, Joey and I did. I will see you two later, I have to go talk to some other people.

(Jen and Dawson watched him make his way over to Sarah, the hooch that wanted Pacey to be her partner in the beginning.)

Jen: I can't believe it!

Dawson: (Looking at Jen with a soft look) He's lying, Jen.

Jen: You think?

Dawson: I've known him a long time, and less than 20 minutes ago, he was physically ill with sadness at the thought of how much he hurt Joey. Something's going on.

Jen: What do we do now? Do we just leave things alone and try to let them work it out? Or do we try to help fix it?

Dawson: I think, for the moment, we need to see if they can find each other on their own. If they can't, well…

Jen: We have to help. Dawson: Right. Hopefully, those two stubborn friends of ours will work things out by tomorrow night's dance.

Jen: What if it just wasn't meant to be, and we were wrong?

Dawson: There is only one way to find out.

Jen: Yeah, I guess so.

Jen: (Looking at Pacey flirting with Sarah) I think we just need to take that bitch Sarah and lock her in a closet until after the dance.

Dawson: (Smiling) You're right. She could create a major problem.

Jen: Do you think I should go check on Joey?

Dawson: I think she will be okay.

Jen: You sure?

Dawson: Joey is too tough to let this affect her too much. Although I know she is feeling pretty bad, she is a lot stronger than you think. She isn't going to show it.

(Looking at her watch, Joey saw that it only 5:00. Although she wasn't feeling bad anymore, she didn't want to leave the cabin. Jen had come to check on her twice already, but both times Joey pretended she was asleep. She couldn't let anyone know how she was feeling. Tonight, she could hide away from everything and everyone. Tomorrow, she would have to face it all. She had to be ready for that. The last thing she needed was for all of her feelings to come out. She had learned that she could handle anything, but right now, the only thing she couldn't do is face Pacey. She just wished that tomorrow she could avoid him too. That would be impossible. She laid back down hoping to fall asleep and not wake up again until tomorrow morning. She was getting tired of thinking.)

I know it is short, but I promise to have a new one up soon. Thanks to all who sent me feedback. It really helped. Please continue to send me feedback because it really does help me with my writing. Hope you enjoyed this part. Until next time…
