"Bessie! My dress! Where is my dress? I left it right here!" Joey yelled at the top of her lungs.

"Calm down, Jo. I put it on the couch," Bessie said calmly.

"Oh," Joey said quickly running for the dress.

"Why so hyper anyway?" Bessie asked.

"No reason. There's just going to be a party at Cliff's" Joey explained.

"What party?" Bessie asked.

"The party at Cliff's remember? His birthday. At the beach," Joey said.

"The beach? Now you never told me about that part," Bessie said, shaking her finger.

"That's because Cliff just informed us yesterday that it was going to take place on the beach," Joey told her sister.

"Us?" Bessie questioned.

"Me and Pacey," Joey replied.

"Oh," Bessie said with a smile.

"What? Why the smile? Why the ‘oh'?" Joey asked quickly, feeling a little panicked.

"Nothing. Just that lately, you and Pacey have been spending an awful lot of time together," Bessie said, the smile still on her face.

"Oh, Bessie, stop making something out of nothing," Joey exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air.

"Sorry. Just not having a good day," Bessie said, and continued peeling the carrot in her hands.

"That's alright," Joey said, a bit relived that Bessie gave up so easily. Because if Bessie had pressed on, Joey might of given in. And it wouldn't be because she was in a rush to get dressed, but because she might have believed it too.

Joey was in the washroom, applying some lipstick on her lips. She looked in the mirror and stopped. She looked at herself more carefully and realized that she was more dressed up than usual. She would be lying if she said that she was only getting dressed up for the party. The truth was that it involved Pacey. She didn't know what was going on, all she knew was that something was going on. Her relationship with Pacey had changed throughout the summer. For better or worst, she did not know.

She didn't know if Pacey felt any different around her, but she knew for a fact that she felt a little queasy around him. Not queasy in a bad way, but queasy in a...good way. The other night when Pacey held her in his arms while attempting to teach her golf had sent her head spinning. It felt good to be held again. The problem was, she wasn't sure if it was being held that gave her warm fuzzies, or the fact that she was being held by Pacey. She hoped that the first option was right because the second one was a little too complicated for her. And then there was Dawson. . . She still haven't called him yet. She didn't even know if she really wanted to.

Joey decided to push those thoughts out of her head. She didn't need to be thinking about that right now. Right now, she should just concentrate on getting ready. She picked up a comb and started brushing her hair.

Pacey slowly made his way up the steps to Joey's house. He looked at his watch. Six forty-five on the dot. Well, here goes nothing, he thought to himself. He rang the doorbell. Pacey waited for someone to open the door. He was a bit nervous, but it wasn't because of Joey......yeah it was. Ever since the summer started, mixed emotions for Joey swarmed through his head. There were times when he felt totally comfortable around Joey, but then there were times when he felt uncomfortable. And it wasn't because he didn't like her, no that was far from the truth, but because certain feelings had arise that shouldn't have. And what scared him the most was that he like those feelings. His thought were interrupted by Bessie.

"Why, hello there Pacey," Bessie greeted after opening the door. "You look nice tonight."

"Thanks," he replied, blushing a little.

"Joey will be right down," Bessie informed.

"Great," Pacey said.

Bessie left to tell Joey that Pacey was there. Pacey stood on the porch and waited, straightening out some creases on his black dress pants.

"Hi Pacey," Joey said from the doorway a moment later.

And I can't explain,
But it's something about the way you look tonight,
Takes my breath away,
It's the feeling I get about you, deep inside

Pacey stopped straightening his outfit. He first caught sight of Joey's feet and then his eyes made their way up Joey's body. He had literally never seen anything more beautiful. Joey was wearing a plain black dress with spaghetti straps. Her hair was pulled back in a loose up sweep. She had just the right amount of makeup on to compliment her features. Pacey was at a sudden lost of words and breath. He stood there for a second staring at Joey, until he finally realized what a dork he must of looked like just standing there.

"Hi...hi Joey," he finally spoke. "You look beautiful."

"Thanks," Joey replied blushing at the compliment. "You look nice too."

"So, you ready?" Pacey asked offering her his hands.

"Yeah," Joey said, placing her hand in his. She closed the door behind her and they made their way down her porch. Pacey stole another look at Joey as they made their way to his truck. He smiled.

And I can't describe,
But there's something about the way
You look tonight
Takes my breath way
The way you look tonight

"Wow," was the first thing Joey said when they arrived at the beach. Joey couldn't believed what she saw. If there hadn't been a sign there that said "Capeside Beach", she would of swore she was in heaven.

"Cliff really outdid himself this time," Pacey commented, in just as much in awe as Joey was.

"Yeah," was all Joey could say. She looked around. There were small white lights hanging all over the beach. There were numerous tables set up with soft white lacy clothes over them. Four chairs were at each of it's sides. Candles and a vase of flowers were displayed at each table. There was a table where all of Cliff's birthday gifts were gathered and another table covered with food. Joey could even make out a "dance floor" were people were already dancing to the music blasting from the stereo at the door way to the beach house.

"Hey guys!" Cliff greeted.

"Hi Cliff. Happy Birthday!" Joey exclaimed, handing Cliff the gift she got him.

"Yeah, Happy Birthday man," Pacey said, handing Cliff his own gift.

"Thanks," Cliff said.

"The place looks great," Pacey told him.

"Yeah, my parents really outdid themselves," Cliff told Pacey and Joey as he looked around the beach himself. "Well, enjoy yourselves. The foods over there, the dance floor there, and the washroom's in the beach house. Don't worry, there's a sign."

"Alright, I think I got everything," Pacey said, and Cliff made his way to the next group of people arriving.

"Let's go to the food table," Pacey announced immediately.

Normally, Joey would of told Pacey that he was being a pig for going to the food table right away. But Joey was just as tempted to go to the food table, wondering what kinds of heavenly food waited for her there.

"Let's go," Joey agreed.

"Hey, Pace. Shouldn't you leave some food for the other guest?" Joey asked when she returned to the food table from the ladies room.

"Oh please. There's plenty of food left," Pacey said after another bite from the piece of cake on his plate.

"Pacey, you've been eating ever since we've got here," Joey pointed out.

"Fine, fine. Just ruin my fun," Pacey said, throwing his plate in the garbage.

"Come on, let's dance," Joey urged Pacey.

"Since when did you become the dancing queen?" Pacey asked.

"Since when did you become Curious George?" Joey shot back.

"Since you've asked me to dance," Pacey replied. "Come on," Joey said rolling her eyes and grabbed Pacey's hand as she pulled him to the dance floor.

Pacey reluctantly joined Joey as they danced to "Praise You" by Fat Boy Slim. At first Pacey was a little stiff, but by the time the second song rolled around, Pacey was getting into it. "Not bad, Witter," Joey said with a grin.

"You're not so bad yourself," Pacey threw back. They both continued dancing, laughing every so often.

The last words to the current song finished playing and a slow song came on.

"Um, I'm going to get something to drink," Joey said uneasily as she heard the first few notes to Jim Brickman, Jordan Hill and Billy Porter's Destiny play. She turned around to go, but Pacey caught her arm.

"No, wait. Let's dance," Pacey said with a smile.

Joey smiled back. As Pacey pulled her closer, she felt queasy all over again. Pacey placed his arms around her waist and Joey placed hers around his neck.

What if I never knew
What if I never found you
I'd never have this feeling in my heart
How did this come to be
I don't know how you found me
But from the moment I saw you Deep inside my heart I knew

Baby you're my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart & soul
I give my love to have & hold
And as far as I can see
You were always meant to be, my destiny

Joey's heart started to race and her hand got all sweaty.

Whoa. Get a grip, girl, Joey told herself, but her body wouldn't listen to her. Her heart started beating faster and Joey thought that if it beat any faster, she would have a heart attack. She willed herself to calm down. She couldn't feel this way. Not now, not ever. There was too many things going on now and feelings for Pacey would just complicate them. She didn't even know how she felt about Dawson and then of course there was the Andie factor.

She looked up at Pacey. Pacey's been so good to her. She didn't know why she didn't see this sweet side to him before. But now, it was too late to even think about being with him. There was just too many things going on now. She had to stop feeling this way. But how could she when every time she sees him, her knees would go weak and her heart would race?

* * *

I wanted someone like you
Someone that I could hold on to
And give my love until the end of time
But forever was just a word
Something I'd only heard about
But now you're always there for me
When you say forever I believe

Pacey swayed to the music with Joey in his arms. He didn't know what possessed him to ask her to dance. He just had. He didn't regret it though. It felt so good to have Joey in his arms. But this was only a temporary thing. As soon as the song was over, he would have to face reality and let her go. If only things were different, then maybe he wouldn't be so scared to have these feelings for her. At first, he tried to deny them. She was his best friend's ex. And he was technically with Andie. But the feelings became too strong and he gave in. He shouldn't of given in, but he did. He let himself fall for her once, and he told himself he wouldn't do it again. But he did. Joey was. . . Joey. He grew up with her, and as much as they fought, he had always cared for her. And even if his feelings for her went away for awhile, they would always return.

He looked at her. She was so beautiful. She came on as someone tough, but he could always see through her. Holding her in his arms felt so right, but he knew that this could never be. Things were just to complicated in the world for him to be with her. He continued to gaze at her as the breeze ran through her hair and the moonlight caressed her face.

* * *

Baby you're my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart & soul
I give my love to have & hold
And as far as I can see
You were always meant to be, my destiny
Maybe all we need, is just a little faith
'Cause baby I believe that love will find the way

Joey wanted to be like this, forever in Pacey's arms. She looked up at him again, and this time, Pacey caught her eyes. They held their gaze as they both stared into each other's eyes. There was something in Pacey's eyes that mesmerized Joey. Her heart skipped a beat when she realized that Pacey was leaning forward. She was surprised to find herself doing the same thing.

Oh Gosh. What am I doing? Joey thought to herself. She couldn't kiss Pacey. She didn't even know how she felt about Dawson and she couldn't hurt Andie. Andie was her friend, wasn't she? And besides, things would just be too weird. Her and Pacey? Sure she had feelings for him, but they would pass. There would just be no way that-

All thoughts disappeared from her mind as Pacey's lips met hers. There they shared the softest and most sweetest kiss Joey had every experienced. The kiss was slow, yet passionate, but at the same time gentle. Joey's heart raced as the kissed continued on. There were so many reasons why this was wrong, but right now, Joey couldn't think of one. This kiss made Joey feel as if she and Pacey were the only ones in the world. Pacey was what she needed. He was what she wanted.

They continued to kiss beneath the stars. Joey Potter was kissing Pacey Witter. For the first time, that seemed right. Joey let her mind rest as she let her heart take over.

Baby you're my destiny
You and I were meant to be
With all my heart & soul
I give my love to have & hold
And as far as I can see
From now until eternity
You were always meant to be, my destiny
