“Do you want me too?” Pacey asked back. Joey came out of the kitchen and shrugged.
“Doesn’t matter.” She paused. “Actually, it would make me feel a bit better. Could you?” Pacey nodded.
“Well, I got no plans for the rest of the night.”
“Great. You can crash on the couch. It’s not much, but it’s all we have.”
“Thanks Jo. Could you just get me a pillow?” Joey nodded and rushed off to her room. She grabbed a pillow and a blanket and stepped back into the living room just in time to watch Pacey pull his shirt off.
Joey silently sucked her breath in between her teeth. Pacey had a nice chest. His six-pack wasn’t bad either. Quickly she shook her head. *What was I thinking,* she thought. *This is Pacey.*
“Here you go,” she said, entering the living room all the way. Pacey turned around and looked at her.
“Thanks. And have a good sleep. Don’t worry,” he said, “if you snore to loudly, I’ll come wake you up.” Joey slung the pillow and blanket at his head.
“Jerk,” she mumbled, walking back to her own room.
“Goodnight to you to Princess.”
(I know you’re saying “You idiot -- They were supposed to kiss!” But I couldn’t do that, could I. That would be to nice, to easy and way, way to early. I have read many fanfic’s in which Pacey and Joey spend one day together and start making out. But not in this one. Sorry, I digress. Just keep reading and please don’t yell at me.)
Pacey woke to the sound of Alexander screaming. He rolled into a sitting position and rubbed his eyes. Joey was leaning over the sink eating a piece of toast. Bessie was trying to feed Alexander and Bodie was nowhere in sight. Pacey tossed off his blanket and walked into the kitchen, still shirtless.
“Good morning Pacey,” Bessie said, trying to get the food into the baby’s mouth. “Did you sleep OK?”
“Yeah. Your couch is surprisingly comfortable.” Joey looked around from the sink.
“Toast?” she asked, pointing to the toaster. A piece of bread was sticking out of the top.
“Sure,” Pacey responded, and Joey reached over to press the button down.
Dawson stumbled down stairs at 11:30. His hair was messed up and he was still in his pajamas. He turned the corner into the kitchen and stopped in surprise. Pacey Witter was sitting at the table drinking coffee with his mother.
“Pace, what are you doing here so early?” Dawson sat down across from him and yawned. His mother laughed and got up to pour him some coffee.
“Thanks mom,” he said, yawning again. Pacey laughed and dropped a thick packet of papers in front of him.
“What is this?” Dawson questioned, rubbing his eyes. Mrs. Leery set the coffee mug down in front of him and he took a sip.
“Jeeze Dawson, you really must be tired. It’s your script. Complete with notes from Joey and Pacey. She would have delivered them personally, but she’s working. So, enjoy the notes.” Pacey took a last swig of coffee and stood up.
“Where you going?” Dawson asked.
“Unlike some people, I have to work today. So, enjoy your day off Dawson, and farewell.”
By two thirty Dawson had finished reading the notes left to him by Pacey and Joey. They were just what Dawson wanted -- brutally honest. He opened his computer and set about revising his script.
Jen climbed through Dawson’s window at 6:00. He was hunched over his computer, furiously typing away. He didn’t even notice when she walked up behind him.
“Dawson,” she said, causing him to jump almost three feet off his chair.
“Jeeze Jen, don’t do that.” Jen laughed.
“I wasn’t that quiet coming in. What’s got you so wrapped up?”
“My script. Pacey brought it over this morning, and I’ve been working on it all afternoon. I’ve just about finished the first revision.” Jen smiled.
“That’s wonderful Dawson. I’m sure it’s going to be great.” Dawson smiled.
“I sure hope so.” He punched a few keys and clicked the save icon. “Now all I need is some paper.”
“Well, the stores are still open for a few hours. Let’s go.” Dawson smiled and stood up. He grabbed his jacket and the two walked out of his room.
At 7:30 Joey stumbled into the video store. Her feet were sore and her shoulders felt like they were going to fall off. She groggily scanned the new release section of the store, grabbed the first even slightly appealing video off the shelf and walked to the check-out counter. Pacey, who was still working, gave her the once over.
“Joey, you look like you’re going to die.”
“I feel like it.” She glanced at Pacey. “Why are you still working? I thought you got off at four.”
“I did. But Jonny’s sick, so I got stuck working.” He glanced at the clock. “But I get off right now. You want to do something.” Joey shrugged.
“Sure, if you don’t mind going back to my place and crashing on the couch because that’s all I’m going to do tonight.” She tried to suppress a yawn.
“No problem. I can even get you off your feet. I’ve still got the truck with me.” Joey smiled.
“Pacey, you just became my new best friend.”
The movie was almost over. Long ago, to tired to care what she was doing, Joey had lain down with her head in Pacey’s lap. Pacey was secretly enjoying having her so close. He was gently playing with her hair, fiddling the ends. He had even attempted some braids.
Throughout the whole thing, Joey hadn’t said a thing. She was enjoying it. No one had played with her hair for a long time. Slowly she began to drift off to sleep.
Pacey himself was asleep. He had fallen asleep shortly after the movie ended. He was dreaming about Dawson’s movie. The actions ran through his head, mixed up with his job at the video store. It was a confusing, and slightly bizarre, dream.
Bessie stumbled out of her room at 10:15 am. The restaurant was closed today, and she had allowed herself the luxury of sleeping in. Bodie had gotten up to take care of Alexander. She walked into the living room, and almost jumped out of her skin. Joey and Pacey were asleep on the couch. Bodie was playing with his son in the kitchen.
“What are those two doing?” Bessie asked, motioning towards the living room.
“Sleeping,” was the reply. Bessie smirked at her boyfriend.
“Very funny. Why are they sleeping on the couch.”
“Because they knew you’d disapprove of her bed. Bessie, I have no idea. Why don’t you wake them up and ask them?”
“No, I want to let Joey sleep. But how about you sweetheart,” she said to the baby. “Do you want to go and play?”
Joey woke up confused. She wasn’t sure where she was or just what she was lying on. She sat up, immediately recognizing her living room. Then it came back to her: falling asleep on Pacey’s lap. She twisted around, and sure enough there he was. She rubbed her eyes and looked around. Bessie, Bodie and Alexander were nowhere to be found, and the clock on the wall read 11:30. Pacey was still asleep.
Pacey woke up about 12:00. Once again he was on the Potter couch. He could hear someone moving around in the kitchen. He sat up, and, repeating the actions of the previous morning, rubbed his eyes. He stood up and walked into the kitchen. Joey automatically pushed the plunger on the toaster downwards.
“Good morning,” she said. Pacey yawned and Joey laughed.
“Where’s everyone?” Pacey asked.
“My guess is that they went to the park. Anyway, don’t worry. It’s nice to finally have some quiet.” The two sat in the kitchen, not talking. The silence comfortable.
“Won’t your parents be worried that you didn’t come home?” Joey questioned, suddenly. Pacey looked at her in surprise.
“What? My parents? Naw. Dad probably won’t notice, and if he does, mom’ll just tell him I stayed at a friends and told her first.” The silence continued.
“What’cha doin’ tonight Joey?”
“Tonight . . . . .” she paused to think. “Nothing. Why?”
“Well, if you could stand it, wanna go to the movies?” Joey looked at him.
“What do you mean ‘If I can stand it?’”
“Well, we’ve spent the last two nights together. I now have the wonderful privilege of bragging to everyone that I slept with Joey Potter two nights in a row!” Joey smacked him.
“Jerk. What movie?”
“Well Princess, what do you want to see?” Joey shook her head.
“You decide.” Pacey was surprised that she had let him call her Princess.
“Will do. Now if you will excuse me, I’m going home to have a shower.” Pacey stood up and walked out of the house. Joey watched him leave through the window.
Dawson watched with glee as the copy of his second draft was expelled from the printer. He liked this version even better that the first. Jen was sitting on the bed watching Dawson. He was like a little boy on Christmas morning. She thought he looked cute.
“Well, now that it’s printed, do I get to read it?” Dawson looked around at Jen.
“Knock yourself out.” She walked over to Dawson’s desk and picked up the first page of the script.
Joey looked at herself in the bathroom mirror. She had piled her hair on top of her head, with several strands hanging in front of her eyes. She had applied eyeliner, thicker and darker than usual. As she was putting on her perfume, Joey paused. She glanced at herself in the mirror. *What am I doing?* she asked herself. *I’m just going to the movies.* She didn’t have time to think anymore - there was a knock on the door. She heard Bessie answer the door and she heard Pacey enter.
Jen smiled as she set the final page of the script down.
“Dawson, that was wonderful! I don’t think that I’ve ever read anything more entertaining. It was so involved. Dawson, I don’t know what to say!” Dawson smiled.
“Well, I’m glad you like it. I’ve just been reading it off of the computer and I’ve found some places I want to go over and smooth out, but other than that, I’m pretty happy with it.”
“Well you should be,” Jen said. “This is excellent.”
“Thank you.”
“So Pacey, what are we seeing tonight?”
“You still on that Princess. Why don’t you just let yourself have fun. That’s it! Tonight we are going to see a movie, that under any other circumstances, we would not watch. So when we get there, pick the one movie you don’t want to see.” Joey laughed at him.
“Pacey, you’re nuts.”
“Why, thank you.” Joey couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Dawson picked up the phone and began to punch in some numbers.
“Who’ya callin’?” Jen asked.
“Joey,” Dawson replied. “I want her and Pacey to see the new script, and start talkin’ to them about production.” The phone stopped ringing on the other end.
“Hello?” Bessie answered.
“Hey Bess, it’s Dawson. Is Joey there?”
“Nope. She and Pacey went to the movies. But I think she’ll be back around midnight. Want me to tell her to call you?”
“Naw. I’ll call her tomorrow.”
“Bye Dawson.”
“Bye.”
“She not there?” Jen asked.
“Nope. She and Pacey are at the movies.” Jen’s face lit up in a huge grin. “What?” he asked, looking at her curiously.
“Nothing,” she said. “Now Dawson, do you want to do something?” Dawson smiled at her.
“Sure.”
“Pacey that was the dumbest movie I have ever seen.”
“I know, but wasn’t it fun?”
Joey smiled. “Yeah, it was.”
“Dawson, that was such a beautiful movie,” Jen sniffled.
“It was pretty good wasn’t it.”
“Yeah.”
Pacey stopped his truck in front of Joey’s house.
“Thanks Pacey, that was fun.”
“Any time Princess. See ya’ tomorrow?”
“Yep. I’ll probably go over to Dawson’s in the morning.”
“OK. Have a good sleep.”
“Bye.” Joey hopped out of the truck and walked into the house. Pacey sat silently in the driveway, watching her walk inside. His mind was focused entirely on her.
Jen glanced at the clock in Dawson’s room.
“Dawson, it’s late. Grams is gonna have a fit if I’m not back soon.” Dawson nodded.
“OK. Thanks for reading my script Jen.”
“No problem Dawson. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Yeah. I’ll call you in the morning.”
“Bye.” Jen climbed out the window and eased herself down the ladder. Dawson stared after her as she quickly ran across the lawn to her house.
