“Hey,” Joey greeted Pacey, when she walked up to where he was sitting on the docks.
Pacey looked up at her.
“Hey,” He greeted her back.
Joey sat down next to him on the docks and let her feet dangle above the water. She looked at her boyfriend, who was there physically but in his dark brown eyes, looked like he was a million miles away in a sadder place.
“You okay?” Joey asked after a couple minutes of silence.
Pacey didn’t respond. Joey sighed, and stood up.
“If you want to talk, I’ll be over at Dawson’s,” Joey told him. When he didn’t respond she started to turn away. Instead of walking away, she stood with her back turned to him for a couple of minutes before turning towards him again.
“This is pointless,” Joey stated outloud. Pacey turned and looked at her strangely.
Joey walked over and said to him,
“Come with me.”
Pacey stood up.
“What?”
“You’ll see,” Joey told him. Pacey looked at her strangely once more before following her.
Dawson looked out of the window at the door next door, he saw her. Her blonde hair shimmering in the early moon’s glow. He sighed. He knew he should probably make a move before somebody else did. But how? He couldn’t just go and ask her out right, could he? He looked at his phone and wondered if he should call Pacey for advice. But knowing Pacey, he’d probably be out with Joey. What was with that anyways? When he had left for vacation with his parents, they were mortal enemies, they could barely stand in the same room together. Then when he had come back, he had caught them making out in Pacey’s room. They never did explain how they started going out, then again he’d never asked. He only had dropped subtle hints that he wanted to know, but they’d ignore it or change the subject. He looked at the phone one more time before dialing Pacey’s number.
“Okay, here we are,” Joey said as she rowed up to a deserted island, that was really a small patch of land with tall grass. Joey tied up the boat and stepped out, Pacey followed her.
“Joey, why did you take me to the place where we use to play Gilligan’s Island when we were kids?” Pacey asked, he had been having a bad day so far and wasn’t to thrilled to be playing, ‘Guess the significance of this’ game.
“So you couldn’t go anywhere until you tell me what’s wrong,” Joey told him.
“You dragged me out to a deserted island because of that?” Pacey said, he couldn’t help but laugh.
“Well, I haven’t seen you this sad since that day in the ruins,” Joey told him matter of factly.
Pacey stopped laughing at the mention of the day of the ruins.
“Is it your family again?” Joey asked him.
“Yeah,” He said in a small voice.
Joey looked at him, she could tell that he was remembering that day in the day in the ruins.
Dawson looked out of the window once more, he had tried Pacey’s but there was no answer. Dawson sighed and decided that he should go outside, and try to strike up a conversation.
He walked outside and stood next to her.
“Pretty night out, isn’t it?” Dawson asked.
Jen turned and looked at him, “Yeah, it is.”
“You know, maybe I should skip this whole cliche small talk thing and just go staright for the kill. Do you want to go to the movies tommorow?” Dawson asked in one rushed, breath.
Jen smiled. He seemed like a nice guy, and she liked him. Besides, he didn’t know about her past, so why not?
“Yeah, I’d love to Dawson,” Jen told him, while smiling.
“Um, tommorow, I’ll pick you up at seven?” Dawson asked, not believing that she had said yes.
“All right, I’ll see you then,” Jen told him and then left.
Dawson smiled, turned around and left.
