The most famous ruins in Turkey can be found here .The Greko Roman ruins of Ephesus are close to town and therefore easy to visit. During Roman times Ephesus was one of the great trading and religious ports. The port silted up and the ruins are now a number of kilometres  inland

A number of other options are available, one of. which is the House of the Virgin .Mary, where it is claimed Mary lived out her life having been brought there by St. John. In the  centre  of town are the ruins of St. John's Basilica. In the main street of , Selcuk there are columns which , at one time carried the aqueduct into the city.Should you prefer to spend the day on the beach, Pamucak beach is only a 15 minutes drive away.
