I think the concept of a camisk in the books is rather different to what we have in gs....in the books slaves at times see a mere camisk as a thing of beauty compared to being kept naked always....this quote for example suggests as much

There are many good characters in Normans world but the whole point for me with Cabot is that he absorbed everything thrown at him without giving up his principles...Tarl was the point of the story...no matter that the story took on its own importance over time....no amount of invention later on compared to that unwavering character that sweeps us into another world
