There were only three statuses conceivable to the Gorean
mind outside of the caste system; slave, outlaw, and Priest-King.
So how are wagon people, desert people, and others outside
established cities categorized? Tarnsman of Gor was a new
idea. Lots in it changed as the story evolved through the
books. I take that to mean 'just because a quote can be
found, whether in or out of context, doesn't make it so.

They may not have called the classifications "Castes", but all the groupos I have studied on Gor had some form of classification according to what they did. The Wagon Peoples had a Clan of Torturers, and Port Kar had a Caste of Thieves, for eample. So oNE COULD DEDUCE FROM THAT THT THE "TRIBES" HAD OTHER CLASSIFICATIONS TOO, ACCORDING TO STATUS AND SKILLS. *sorry for the caps* And the "serfs" called themselves "The Ox upon which Gor rests. So I'd say Castes, whether called that or not, existed everywhere. After all many of the Castes such as Merchants, Assassins, Mercenaries, Musicians, etc. traveled for their livings
