Chapter 6

Fight to the Finish

The guards began rounding the slaves up. Some struggled while others just cried. Some were forced to the floor, kicked around while others were shackled once more. Two guards had to come and pry Sillabub from Munkustrap's grip. Sillabub cried out, wanting nothing more but to be on the other side of the steel gate and Munkustrap begged for the soldiers to open it and release the young Jellicle who kicked and screamed. Demeter was yanked away from her crying sister, Bombalurina. A guard came to sieze Munkustrap who could only fall to his knees in despair as he cried. He had failed and now because of him, they were probably all going to pay dearly for it. The guard with the help from another, pulled the gray tabby to his feet but Munkustrap used his last ounce of strength to shove them both away. At the sign of aggression, two more guards came and wrestled Munkustrap to the ground and began placing shackles on him. He tried to struggle but his strength was all washed up from grief and emotional heart-ache.
Suddenly, throughout the kingdom a triumphant noise was heard. The clanking of the steel gate rising! The clanking grew louder and faster as the bars rose above them and cheers from the Jellicles were heard. Munkustrap glanced up from his fallen state and was shocked to see non other than the Rum Tum Tugger on the high wall of the gate above tossing over another guard who had previously closed the gate. On both sides of the steel gate were some of Tugger's tribe members who by using their weight were pulling the cut robes down and therefore bringing the gate up. Munku recognized Pouncival and MungoJerrie to be the leaders of that skeme. The guards and Jellicles pulled back from the gates as Tugger's tribe stood infront of it. The Jellicle's were unable to run for they were bounded by the guards. Tugger who stood high on the wall, waitied for everything to be calm. The guards and Jellicles stood motionless waiting for this surprised tribe's next move. Once an awkward silence filled the area, Tugger pulled out a large wooden bo from his belt like a sword and gave out a boistrous cry. As a responce to this, his tribe below also unsheathed their self made, wooden axes, bos and sticks as they too made a war like cry frightening the guards our of the wits. While hollaring like bandits, the forest tribe of toms charged the crowd and began beating upon the guards. They leaped on their backs, necks and tripped them under their own two feet. Once Munkustrap was rid of the guards that bound him, he glanced up at Tugger and hollared with a smile, "I didn't know they could fight?!"
Tugger laughed as he hollared back, "They really can't! I just told them it was all a big game! Look at em!" and Munkustrap glanced at the chaos behind him. He couldn't help but laugh when seeing the huge smiles upon the forest tribe's faces. They laughed, cried out like fools and just had a great time picking on the dumb guards. Munkustrap laughed tears when he saw three of Tugger's toms playing like the three stooges upon one guard, taking a few pokes at his eyes with two fingers, bopping his head a few times and giving the guard a few funny slaps. They weren't fighting, they were fooling around but it was working. The guards couldn't stand the constant tripping, poking, hitting over the head with bamboo sticks and silly name calling and laughing. Tugger's tribe was young and full of teenage toms who were clever and at most times....immature! Tugger figured that by using his tribe's best quality, they had a chance of actually helping out! With the guards distracted, the Jellicles made a break for the open gate. Tugger then leaped down from his heigh perch and joined Munkustrap in leading them out from the kingdom and into the unknown wilderness beyond. Once the Jellicles were a good distance away, Tugger whistled for his tribe. Immediatly, after a few more funny pranks, the young toms made a break for it as well. The toms who held the ropes for the gate then released them locking Macavity and his guards in their own kingdom as Munkustrap, Tugger and his gang along with the Jellicles ran towards freedom.

It wasn't long when Tugger and Munkustrap led the cats back to the forest. Nearly a thousand cats followed them and upon their arrival, the rest of Tugger's tribe who had stayed emerged from their huts. Serric's eyes widoned in shock as he knew very well what Tugger had come back with. Serric shook his head in horror as he cried, "What are they doing here? Tugger are you nuts?!"
"Look we're just helping them out till they can fend for themselves." replied Tugger but that wasn't good enough for Serric who let loose on a rampage, "But you brought them HERE!!! For the love on insanity Tugger, don't you know Macavity and his forces are going to find us here too now!!! Get them out of here!!"
Pouncival laughed, "Those guards are wimps, they were so confused as to what was happening around them that-"
"You only delt with guards!! That's only a pint of what Macavity has! He has egnormous gladiators that will tear our flesh in seconds! They're his Evil Cats!" Fear then over took Serric as he continued, "They're now coming here! All of them!! We're all doomed only because - because -" Serric's eyes then fell on Munkustrap as he pointed and growled, "YOU! You did this! Now we are all going to die all because YOU wanted to play hero!!" and Serric leaped on Munkustrap and the two struggled on floor pushing up dirt and leaves. "Serric stop!" ordered Tugger but the scuffle continued as Serric gave Munkustrap a strong slash across the face leaving four red claw marks on the right side of his cheek. The gray tabby then mustered up enough strength to slam the tom against a tree and growled, "If all you care about is yourself, then leave! Why become part of a tribe when you're never willing to help others. Why not be a loner?! What are you afraid of?!!"
Pinned against the tree, Serric found it useless to struggle and hissed, "You don't know who or what Macavity is!"
"I know more than you think!" replied Munkustrap, "I was raised as his brother and though now I know that I'm not his real brother, I grew up with him under his family and their care." Serric's eyes widoned as he listened and was stunned along with everyone who heard him. Munkustrap continued, "And do you know how I found out I wasn't his real brother? Because I met my real mother in a cell where she died before my very eyes after she told me everything. So don't you DARE tell me I know nothing of Macavity!"
Silenced by the gray tabby's words, Serric stood there staring at him. Slowly, Munkustrap released the stunned tom and Serric then softly spoke, "As much as a shocker that may be, you still don't know." Munkustrap frowned, "I just want to know what you're afraid of." Serric closed his eyes as he answered like a frightened child, "Macavity's father, King Triton enslaved the Jellicle Tribe. I was a Jellicle too along with my father who was then the leader. Many know him as Old Deuteronomy. When Triton captured my father's tribe he sentenced my father to death. However, with Tugger's help we escaped. Triton then vowed to set out in a persute of finding him and killing my father on the spot. We thought our troubles had ended when Triton died, but then we found that he had a son, Macavity, who too hated the Jellicles like his father and took on the same vow from his father's death bed for my father's death. Dad is old now and unable to fight for himself like he once so bravely did. Macavity to this day has not bothered in looking for my father and has never found him." A tear rolled as Serric ended it with, "I would like to keep it that way." Munkustrap was silent. Serric scanned the large mass of Jellicle cats that now stood before him like a welcome mat for Macavity and his Evil Cats and shivered at the thought that both he and his father's lives were in more danger now than ever before. But then Serric also saw the pain and suffering in the Jellicle's eyes. He too was a Jellicle but had not gone through the same harsh things they had endured all these years. Their eyes cried out for mercy and deliverence and most of all for his help. Then out of the thick silence, Bombalurina came forth, looking Serric in the eye and said, "Many nights we prayed with little hope that no one would hear. In our hearts we had dreams and visions that we barely understood..." she then stood infront of her tribe as she spoke for them all, "...now we are not afraid although we know there's much to fear. I'm begging you, help us. We don't have much to offer but our courage, support and gratitude."
More tears rolled out from Serric's eyes as he turned to Munkustrap and said, "Do you swear that my father's life will not be lost? I don't care about me. Do you really think we could beat them?"
Munkustrap placed an assuring paw on Serric's shoulder as he replied, "I never had doubt from the beginning and I sure as hell don't have doubt now." and Serric smiled at Munkustrap's answer as they both embraced.

Macavity paced back and forth in his palace, fire in his eyes and boiling in his blood. He reached for a priceless vase that stood on a short pillar and chucked it, smashing it in a thousand pieces against the marble walls. Just then a guard entered in and announced that they had finally gotton the steel gate open and they were ready to leave after the Jellicles when he was ready. "I can't believe it!" hissed Macavity, "Trapped like a rat in my own kingdom. How more embarrassing is that?!"
"But they're open my king." replied the guard. "I didn't ask you!!" bursted Macavity as he threw another vase at the guard who quickly ducked it but was caught under a rainfall of broken clay and glass. The red tom then walked over to the large fire place where a huge enferno kindled inside. Macavity's eyes reflected the fire like a mirror as he growled like a demon, "Get the Evil Cats ready. Munkustrap may have won the battle but I have already won the war."

That night Munkustrap was busy with the Jellicle's and the Forest cats combined into teaching them how to fight. He knew Macavity and his forces would be coming soon so there was no time to spare. Munkustrap and Tugger taught them fighting tactics and practiced on each other. They were taught how to skillfully use a bow and arrow and how to manuver their weapons. Tugger found armor for them all made out of nothing else but what the forest provided for them - wood, leaves, mud and more earth. They worked on making weapons such as bow and arrows, shields made of wood, strong bamboo and mud. Spears were made of wood and carved lead rocks. To make give it that fun altitude for the young forest toms, Tugger allowed them to put on war paint from the sap of trees and mixture of mud and clay. They wore wooden and stone armor camaflodged with leaves and grass. They fixed up their habitat with placed a firm fortress on stilts high in the trees for ambush and layed traps for them throughout the forest. They built a stirdy fence around the perimeter of the hideout. Everything was done quickly and with teamwork. Munkustrap was dressed in wooden armor, equipped with bow and arrow. Three red lines of paint streaked on both sides of his face and brow. Tugger too had on wooden armor, cluttered with leaves, equipped with bow and arrow and green paint over him. In his hand he carried his trusty bo stick as well. Once everything was set up, all cats were asigned to there spots and waited. The faded sounds of crickets and tree frogs overtook the forest. Munkustrap felt his breathing and heartbeat would interupt their chorus. He sat up in a tree farthest out from the tribe in search of any sign of Macavity. Munkustrap jumped when Tugger joined him. "Scared?" Tugger asked. "Just a little jumpy that's all." Munkustrap replied. "I can't believe that about your life." Tugger said in hush tone. Munkustrap rolled his eyes, "Yeah, who would have thought all I ever lived was a lie." "Well, I wasn't really aiming for that but-"
"Say what about you."
Tugger frowned, "Me?" Munkustrap nodded, "Yeah, what's your story? I'm sure there must have been a Papa Tugger back then."We never really had much of a relationship..." said Tugger. "I remember how everynight, he would come in and I would pretend to be asleep..." Tugger was silent as he thought, "I don't know why I did that, all he wanted to do what talke to me. See how my day went." Munkustrap listened and was a little heartbroken over that little story. He was about to ask him another question when suddenly Munkustrap saw small kindles of torches entering into the forest. "They're here." whispered Munkustrap and he quickly descended from the tree with Tugger following. They ran like deer through the trees and thickets till they came face to face with the built fence that surrounded their base home. "Open up! They're coming!" cried Tugger and the gates were pulled up. Everything was made secure as everyone went into hiding. Meanwhile an appointed guard leaderr and his troops marched foward into the dense forest. A few guards lingered behind and were quickly taken care of by a hidden trap beneath them. The quick and sudden dissapearence brought no jumps from the rest of Macavity's army as they continued on unaware. Little by little, more and more of Macavity's army were swept away by hidden snares and sudden ambushes. Finally they made it to the fortess but the leader of the troops turned to find that he had only five remaining from the twenty he had. The leader then whistled for reinforcements and nearly fifty guards came forth with grapple robes and tossed them over the fence. Immediatly the Jellicles and Forest Cats began with their bows and arrows, rocks and sticks in preventing the guards from getting to the other side of their fort. The war was on. Legions upon legions of Jellicles and Forest Cats ransacked the guards. Many made it over the fence and chaos took over. Pouncival and Mungojerrie swang from the vines and took down four guards. The magician, Mistoffelees used his powers to bring electrifying shocks to the enemies rears and sent them running home. Even the queens had amazing manuvers with their high kicks and long claws. Alonzo turned out to be an amazing fighter and Ecetera joined Jerrie and Pouncival in the swinging and ambushing. Tugger took on several guards, sending them all to the ground with his bo and quick tactics. Munkustrap was just as good. The toms found it once more to be nothing more but a game as they laughed, cheered and kicked some fury butts throughout the night. Serric brought down nearly five guards in one swoop with his bo and was actually having a bit of fun himself. "READY!" cried Munkustrap to a line of allies who stood high on the fortress with arrows pulled back strong, "AIM!" came Munku's next order and the arrows were pointed at the guards below. "FIRE!!!" Spears were then released like a shower of rain upon the enemy causing them to drop like flies. Everything was working perfectly. Realizing his troops were losing in battle, the captain of the guards called out a retreat to his cats and they all ran for their lives back over fence. The Jellicles and Forest Cats cheered triumphantly for their victory. Mistoffelees let loose a blaze of sparkes as Victoria ran over tackled him for a kiss. Bombalurina and Demeter hugged each other and Alonzo lifted Cassi high above him twirling her around and around. Even Tugger and Munkustrap joined in as they hooped and hollared. The Forest Cats joined in their chant as they sang out to the fleeing cats, "Na Na Na Na...Na Na Na Na...Hey Hey Hey....GOODBYE!!!! Na Na Na Na...." and Pouncival did a back flip as he yelled out like a silly child, "That's right! Take your hats, your coats and LEAVE!!!"
"We did it!" cried Serric as he patted Munkustrap on the back. Munkustrap smiled back but his smile soon faded when he heard a sudden scream. It was Sillabub, whose eyes were as big as marbles as she gazed out beyond. Upon the queen's out cry both tribes followed Sillabub's gaze. There on a hill higher than their fortress stood legions upon legions of Evil Cats. They surrounded the fortress carrying torches, swords and armor. They were massive beasts who didn't even look like cats but rather bears. Their eyes glowed white and their teeth flurished in the night. Thousands of thousands of them stood ready for battle, hissing and growling. After a long stand still, Macavity came forth from the mass of demonds and yelled, "Ready." and legions of bow and arrows emerged. But their arrows blazed with fire at the tips bringing day to the night. It was like a ring of fire had just appeared surrounded the entire camp. "Aim!" The arrows are pointed towards the sky and would reign down upon them like fire from the heavens.
"Oh my god!" whispered Munkustrap in a hoarse voice. Tugger stood there beside him as he too was stunned, frightened and amazed at how many stood before them. He gulped as a hot tear ran down his face and added, "God have mercy."
"FIRE!!!"
