Black Neon!
New Pictures!
I spy a new Beetle!
New Mods
New Airdam!
$3 of aluminum and an hour and a half later I had myself a nice new airdam to replace the old, cracked plastic one!
Special thanks to Jesse Marks!
New Mopar Powertrain Control Module!
Its the silver box looking thing. The PCM is basically a computer. This one is made by Mopar and advances spark timing as well as provides re-mapped fuel curves. It does require a minimum of 92 octane. While it does not look very different from the stock PCM (you can see the stock one in other pictures), it does provide a very sizeable power increase.
The Throttle Body on the left is the old one. It is only 49mm. You can see how the top of the TB narrows as well. The TB on the right is the new one; it came off an automatic Neon, and is 52mm. It is straight bored all the way through.
This is an updated picture of my engine compartment. Note the cold air intake. It is the same one that was on the red Neon.
A good picture of the Borla muffler on the Black Neon.
Neon at my church!
On June 7th, 2002, I went to New York International Raceway Park to drag race. On the third run the engine broke. A rockerarm was damaged, causing a valve to stick open. The piston in the #1 cylinder hit the valve, breaking the piston skirt, and causing the rings to fall. Irreparable damage was also done to the head itself. Exactly three weeks later I got my car back, with a "new engine" (it had about 30,000 miles on it when installed).
Here is my new CD player. Its an Aiwa, and plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs in addition to normal CDs. Now you see it...
Now you don't...
Can you tell the difference between the new engine and the old one? I won't tell if you won't...
This engine's a DOHC, and mostly stock compared to the red Neon's engine. The red wires are from MSD ignition.
