Chapter Seven

Kara looked around her. There was a disgusting smell around her, and it was very dark.

"Hey, babydoll, you hungry?" The man looking down on her asked.

She shook her head no.

"Ok," he said, "But here's a soda if you get thirsty."

"Thank you," Kara said in a tiny voice. Her pappy had raised her to be polite, even to bastards like this man.

"Oh," he said, "So the angel talks. Do you like it here, babydoll?"

She didn't reply.

"Oh, well, I don't need you to talk for me to get what I want."

He left the room. The heavy door slammed shut with a loud bang, causing Kara to jump.

"Pappy?" she asked quietly, "Pappy, where are you?"

And she sobbed into her arms.

"Shit, Brian, who is that!?!" Kristyn said. "God, I KNOW that voice!! Who is it?"

"Kristyn, calm down, sweetie. Are you sure you've heard that voice?' Brian asked, trying to calm her down.

"Yes, I'm sure of it! God, where have I heard that voice before?" Kristyn said, more to herself than to anyone else. She got up and started pacing the room. All of the police officers had stopped what they had been doing when Kristyn had her sudden outburst, and were now watching her pace.

"What was his name? Damnit, I know this! What was it? It started with an N, it... god damnit! What is his name? N... N... NATE!! That's it! His name is Nate!!" Kristyn exclaimed.

"Nate?" Brian said questioningly. "Who the hell is Nate?"

"Remember when I was working at Burger Madness to try and help my parents with my college tuition? Nate was my boss there, and he was the reason I quit," Kristyn explained, trying to remind Brian.

"I remember Nate! God, he never liked me! This makes so much sense! Whenever I used to come pick you up from work, he would always, stare at me with this evil grin, and his gaze never left until we pulled out of the parking lot," Brian said, finally remembering.

"Okay, hold up!" Mike said, interrupting Kristyn and Brian's flashback. "Who is Nate, and what is his last name, we need to get a search on him."

"Nate was my boss at the Burger Madness at 65th and Peoria. He was always hitting on me, and kept brushing up against me, which is why I finally quit. He was a really creepy guy. His last name was...Zuppaolo. Yeah, that's it, Nate Zuppaolo."

"Okay," Mike replied, "I'll run a check."

Kristyn flopped onto the couch. She looked up at Brian.

"Do you think that this will help at all? I just want to get my daughter back."

"We'll find her," Brian said soothingly, "I promise."

Kristyn looked into his eyes, and she knew Brian was never one to break his promises.
